I really don't know much about this guy, not being from New York. But based on this article, he sounds like he should be encased in glass with a sign saying "break only if absolutely needed to beat Trump."

(43,049 posts)We're not overly thrilled with Schumer, either, but that's another story.
Aside from a certain "flexibility" in issues so we're rarely sure just where they stand, local Democratic committees and clubs out here just don't get any support at all from them.
We don't even bother to ask any more.

(43,049 posts)he listens to a few core constituencies. Orthodox Jews, inner city bankers, some others... They are important, but a bit more important to him.
He's got millions in his campaign coffers, but if you're a struggling bunch of Democrats trying to gain traction, well, we got shit from him last year. And we lost a House seat.
We needed him a lot more than he needed us, so we got squat.
Must be a NY thing-- we don't hear from Gillibrand much, either, and we never heard from Hillary. Bummer being a sparsely populated outpost.

NY isn't as blue as some would think. In spite of finally giving upstate a bit of attention (most candidates tend to ignore up here until they need our votes), Cuomo really struggled with upstate and rural last time and listening to idiotic Trumpster types up here I think that's mostly because he pushed through some pretty strong gun regs after Sandy hook.
Here's some maps of how it broke down in NY...

He's not as left as his dad was on some issues nor as much as I'd like to see but realistically I think he'd do very well on a national level and if he won the Democratic primary I'd have no problem casting my vote for him.

(6,238 posts)Keep in mind, I just moved here a few months ago, but I've been trying to get caught up on politics and Cuomo is clearly a mixed bag. I think the Excessior scholarship could help some people and I like that he stands up to Trump.
On the other hand, the MTA is still a mess and he insists on battling the mayor's office instead of working with him. Also, from what I've read, Cuomo has a penchant for big projects as opposed to doing the necessary and hard work of governing. Using the MTA as an example, he bragged about opening a new station, but the whole system needs a major overhaul. The problem is that isn't very flashy l Again, I could be wrong. Those are just my thoughts.
