Holy smokes. Australian journalist provides one of the most brutal takedowns of Trump I've heard in a while.
Political Editor, Chris Uhlmann at the G20 Hamburg.
"He was an uneasy, lonely, awkward figure at this gathering...
and some of the leaders are trying to find the best way to work around him."
Beyond climate change and trade, Donald Trump left behind confusion over North Korea and conflicting statements on whether Russia interfered in the US election. - @ABCaustralia

(110,900 posts)Anything that needs to be done will need to be done at State, if Tillerson doesn't fuck it up too badly.
What this summit has shown us (and them) very clearly is that the US has no president. We have a Russian plant who is utterly incapable of doing the job by both temperament and education.

(26,173 posts)I seem to always remember seeing POTUS standing front and center. He looked like someone who accidentally wandered into someone else's group shot.

(22,976 posts)#45 and his nihilistic band of pirates have MURDERED the United States of America, even as an *idea*.
If I were younger, I'd get the hell out -- to Australia, New Zealand or Canada. It's going to take decades to resurrect this country to its former status. If 2018 doesn't shift the Senate, that'll probably signal the absolute end of this experiment in democracy.

(3,335 posts)a few "scripted speeches" but no clothes. Thanks for noticing world. We're embarrassed too. Unfortunately, our great experiment in democracy has one flaw; it doesn't allow one party to impeach his dumb ass by ourselves, and the other party is scared shitless what would happen to them in the primary if they called their dumb-ass, know-nothing spade, a dumb-ass, know-nothing spade.
I hope the rest of the world keeps calling it like they see it. Hopefully, when the Repugnant Party realizes the head of their party is the laughing stock of the free world, they will decide that they've had enough embarrassment as well, and do the right thing. Impeach.

(82,849 posts)He's pressed "fast forward" on the decline of the United States. Yikes. I'd like to see a little more of this kind of blunt analysis from the domestic press.

(25,746 posts)I've been muttering for years that this country peaked somewhere right before Ronald Reagan was elected, and that we've been in a long, slow decline ever since. What Trump has done very effectively is to speed up that decline, so it doesn't play out over the next 30-50 years, but in no more than 4, his current term as President.

(3,573 posts)That was before Vietnam and Watergate divided us, before the Powell Manifesto was drafted to support the rise of the right-wing corporate state under Reagan and perpetuated by every presidency since 1981, before wages stagnated and productivity skyrocketed, before the Democratic Party brushed aside the New Deal in 1988, before all the media mergers since 1996, and before the nativist/authoritarians seized almost all levers of power between 20092016.
Everything could've been so much different and better had Bobby Kennedy not been assassinated in 1968.

(1,214 posts)Has had a coworker they had to "work around." Someone toxic, who always makes things more difficult. You just find ways to do your job without involving the individual in question, if possible, and when you can't avoid them, you do your best to minimize contact.
That's our president.
