In parking lot a total stranger noticed my army airborne wings and EIB decal on the back of my SUV. He came over introduced himself he was a former usmc crew chief on ch 53. My wife headed into store she knew I'd be awhile. I am that way with veterans, We talked and conversation turned to idiot in chief. This gentleman is terrified because both of his sons they are active duty one is going thru Air Force para rescue training. And his youngest son is in usmc infantry , his words were this stupid fuck is going to get us into a war possibly North Korea and I fear for my boys. I did not comment on what he said what could I say to a father worried. Our son is twelve and our daughters they are grown. I just felt true compassion for this man he has like many parents a lot to worry over.

My Airborne brother got a cushy job as a driver for a General and saw nothing worst than the Dominican Crisis from a protected area. When it came time for my next younger brother to register for the draft, my mom freaked but had no choice but to take him to register, he got a high number and did not get drafted. My family didn't have the money to buy deferments.

(3,557 posts)My parents (including myself) voted for bush 43 in 2000. I sure as hell payed for that vote. I ended up going to Iraq and served as an infantryman and have been paying for that vote with my severe PTSD and guilt ever since.
The war and my experiences pushed me hard to the left with my politics.
Anyone who thinks that trump is "pro veteran" or "pro military" is willfully ignorant. He repeatedly has bashed the service of veterans and dodged a draft because he was too much of a wimp to face combat himself. I don't see how conservatives can look at trump and not see this.
