Site has interactive map of violence/war in area - Too much shit going on in too small an area. Thank God, we have competent, capable leaders in a highly functioning State Department in control of the situation. OH, WAIT----

(16,296 posts)Had quite a few adventures on that death-road. Funniest one was once I almost got wiped out by an ice-cream truck near the Silver Spring exit. Still have flashback nightmare of ice-storms and trucks on the multi-laned nerve twister.
I moved to the D.C. area when they were still in the process of building the Beltway and remember the stench about how they rerouted the road around that high-real estate area where all the rich folk lived back then making that famous dog-leg in what should have been a circle around D.C.

(34,120 posts)I was HAPPY when I learned that Turkey would not renew her visa so she had to leave.
Now she will be working for a different NGO in Baghdad. It's amazing to think that she will be safer there. Her previous posts were in the Philippines and Afghanistan - she does not look for safe postings but goes where the need is greatest.
