A personal example of the consequences of Disgusting Donald's disastrous environmental policies

I apologize for this long rant, but it has to do with what Trump is doing with the EPA, his plans to devastate the environment, and a personal example of something that I experienced over 40 years ago in the Adirondacks.

Back in the early 70's (and even still today) I was an avid recreational fisherman. Back then, on most weekends and many evenings after work, I loved exploring new waters in NYS for trout, bass, northern pike, muskies, etc. Trout were really special, especially native brook trout. They were beautiful fish, very shy which made them tricky to catch, and they required some of the most pristine and pure waters to thrive in. You had to be especially careful not to injure them when releasing them back into the stream. One day (I'm talking back in the early 70's), I decided to take a take a drive into the High Peaks area of the Adirondacks for some trout fishing. However, I wasn't going to fish the more famous waters such as the Ausable River, but I was going to hike into some of the more remote smaller streams in the higher elevations to fish for native brookies. When I arrived at my destination stream, it was a gorgeous picture-perfect example of the kind of stream that should have been teaming with native brook trout. It had rapids, deep pools, the right temperature, and the type of crystal clear water that appeared to have the perfect combination of elements to support trout. I couldn't wait to catch my first fish that day, and I had the stream all to myself (I would later find out why).

Not only were there no trout to be found, but there were not even any of the other hardier fish that often thrive in such streams, such as creek chubs. I set down my pole and started to take a closer look. There weren't any frogs, nor did I even see any aquatic insects. These gorgeous streams were devoid of all life, period. Nothing. On the way home, very disappointed, I stopped at the DEC headquarters just outside of Lake Placid and asked what the heck was going on with those streams in the higher elevations. A forest ranger told me it was acid rain. Acid rain? WTF?? That's the first time I ever heard of it. Remember, this was back in the 70's. He told me that scientists had discovered that clouds of acid rain were coming from the coal factories in the mid-west, riding the prevailing winds, and as soon as they hit the higher elevations (ie the Adirondacks, Green Mountains, White Mountains, etc) those clouds dumped their poisonous toxins into all of those pristine watersheds, eventually killing everything in the water that had lungs or gills. The Adirondacks took the brunt of the damage because they where the first of the higher elevations in the path of the toxic acid-filled clouds heading their way. The ranger explained to me how acid rain had killed all life in any of those pristine streams and ponds of the Adirondacks above 2000 feet in elevation, waters that were once teaming with trout. Acid rain was the culprit, and the coal factories in the mid-west were in violation of the Clean Air Act of 1970.

Soon after the scientists discovered that the mysterious killer of our pristine mountain streams and ponds was acid rain, the environmentalists took action and lobbied Congress to take action. Thanks to the persistent efforts of some savvy hard-nosed Democratic politicians, sensible regulations were eventually imposed upon the coal plants that were polluting the air with their poison. Thanks to the efforts of those Democrats and environmentalists, and thanks to the dedicated efforts of thousands of volunteers, the waters of the Adirondacks started to recover from the suffocating effects of acid rain and actually started to support life again in the form of fish, crustaceans, amphibians, insects, etc for the first time in 50 or 60 years. That's how long it took for those waters to just START to come back, and they're still not fully recovered from the devastation of the acidic toxins that came from the coal plants for so many years.

It took all those years just to start reversing the effects, and now in the blink of an eye, this moron of a president is going to ruin the tremendous half century of effort that it took to restore some life to the pristine streams and ponds of all the watersheds in the Northeast that are above 2000 feet in elevation. Anyone who is familiar with the Adirondacks knows that there are thousands of streams, lakes, and ponds, many of them remote, and many of them the headwaters for larger watersheds such as the Hudson River watershed. All of them are now vulnerable again to being poisoned to death, thanks to Donald Trump and the cowardly republicans who support his policies.

Now, in a fleeting moment, this disaster of a sociopathic lying POS is going to set us back at least 75 years, maybe more, and ruin everything. On top of this, we all just recently learned that he is going to cut 97% of the funds that are dedicated to cleaning up the Great Lakes. Yes, he is planning to reduce the Great Lakes clean water funds from $300 million dollars to 10 million. That, on top of what he has already done to the Environmental Protection Agency, is one of the most worrisome things that I could ever imagine. I had to rant about this because when I'm not working, I spend a great deal of my time volunteering on behalf of the environment, mostly in the Adirondacks. I'm deeply involved doing trail work, going to meetings, and working with other volunteers in various environmental organizations to help maintain what's left of the environment for everyone to enjoy. What Trump is doing really hits me like a knife in the back.

Trump is going to do his utmost best to ruin our water, ruin our forests, and ruin our national parks. He is going to try to ruin everything. Just when it became so thrilling again to see a native brook trout inhabiting a once dead stream, or to see bald eagles soaring in the skies after so many decades of their absence, President PukeFace is going to sacrifice it all in the cause for greed, vengeance, and attention. His mega-sized ego, his complete lack of empathy, combined with the temperament of a spoiled 5-year-old brat, have resulted in the perfect storm, a very deadly one. He is someone who is going to ruin this beautiful country much much sooner than anyone could ever have imagined. No one who loves this country could possibly do what this man is doing. He absolutely hates this land.

I can only imagine what Rachel Carson would think of Trump, were she alive today. Same for two other staunch environmentalists and conservationists, Teddy Roosevelt and John F Kennedy, neither of whom would stand for two minutes of Donald Trump, let alone two months of him. Unlike so many of our timid politicians today, many of them who are only worried about re-election, Roosevelt and Kennedy would have put a bum like Trump in his place without thinking twice about it.

President Pigface's plan to make America Great again is to take every last penny away from minorities, poor people, Native Americans, and the environment and give it to greedy scumbags like himself who are already filthy rich. Make no mistake. Disgusting Donald HATES this beautiful country of ours.

Donald Trump is a worthless bully, a monumental LIAR, a very dangerous maniac, a world class moron, and one of the most disgusting people to ever walk this planet. I cannot understand how anyone who supported this monster can still sleep at night after everything Trump has said and done since becoming THEIR president. All democrats, progressives, liberals, independents, and anyone else who cares about the environment need to continue resisting this monster. If at all possible, try to spend some spare time you have phoning (not emailing) politicians, including so many of the greedbag republican ones, and voice your concerns about Trump. If their office doesn't answer, leave a voice mail if they make it available to you. Make sure to let them know why you're calling and give them a specific issue you're concerned about. The more people who phone them about Trump's obscene policies, the sooner we'll all get out of this terrible mess. Never give up!

i will gladly share this with all my fb friends and family.

my older brother is a trump fan (still? probably) and coincidentally a huge fan of nature. he's spent weeks at a time hiking in yosemite and the mojave desert. back in the day (when we could stand to spend time together), when you went hiking with him he would always turn it into school, naming all the plants, discussing the origins of the water, you name it.

maybe he'd read this and reconsider. that's one of the things that gets me about him and other trump cultists: they have to willfully ignore what an unmitigated disaster his presidency is for the environment. seriously whistling past the graveyard where he's busy digging their own graves. along with ours as well.

This is the real issue. When capitalism shows itself to be short sighted, and selfish interest destroys the future, it becomes clear who the real enemy is. It is Traitor Trump. It is also the Republican Party.

makes me furious and sad. Trump is the leader of the Death Cult known as the GOP. They won't be happy until everything of value is dead.

The experience I had that day with that beautiful but lifeless stream in the High Peaks area of the Adirondacks had a life-lasting impact on me after learning what had killed it off.

It's absolutely heartbreaking to wake up every morning, only to learn of the latest way that Trump is planning to rape the environment. When President Obama took office, one of his first priorities was to overturn as many of George W Bush's terrible environmental policies as he could. After 8 horrible years of Bush and Cheney, the environment started to get some breathing room again. Now we have Trump, who is just as big a monster as Bush or Cheney, only ten times crazier who, if it is up to him, will kill every breathing plant and animal in the forest, all in the name of greed.

who also lives in New York state.
He's the President of "Waterkeeper Alliance" and is Chief Prosecuting Attorney for "Riverkeeper"
whose mission "is to safeguard the integrity of the Hudson River, it's tributaries, and the watershed of New York City.

Probably the best way to reach him is to:
1) Follow him on Twitter, then
2) Send him a tweet

His website is:
http://robertfkennedyjr.com/#

Or Google "Robert F. Kennedy Jr" and his website is the first one listed.

I just signed up to get e-mails from him
at the top right of his website, (Join our mailing list) type in your e-mail address
I'm also now following him on Twitter
