WASHINGTON The Democratic National Committee (DNC) today announced the details of new unprecedented investments along with the Association of State Democratic Chairs (ASDC) to give local Democratic leaders, activists and organizers the resources they need to grow, get out the vote, and win elections.
The new investments dramatically boosts the DNCs existing State Participation Program (SPP). Beginning this October, all state parties will receive a monthly $10,000 investment from the DNC through 2018, which is a 33 percent increase over the base funding levels from 2016 and a 100 percent increase over 2015. This is a historic commitment to party building at the grassroots level.
In addition to the revised SPP, the DNC has made an unprecedented investment in local Democratic organizing by establishing a $10-million State Party Innovation Fund (SPIF), the largest-ever DNC investment in state parties and their organizing efforts. Under the program, state parties will compete for grants to create and support grassroots engagement programs for millennial and youth voters, rural and base constituencies, and other electoral organizing efforts to win elections. The SPIF grant program also includes $500,000 in dedicated grants for Democrats Abroad, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the territories.

So is this a good first step, or not enough? I've been trying to pay more attention to the party and staying involved during the off presidential elections. Of course, Va has critical governors race coming up in November.

(130,861 posts)'Democrats should be able to win in all these places'
As the Democratic Party struggles to find its moorings after losing a handful of special House elections this spring, liberal activists say the partys future in Washington, D.C., isnt in moving centrist, but rather in moving left.
A trio of new political action committees the Peoples House Project, Brand New Congress and Justice Democrats are looking for ways to support candidates with economically progressive platforms and to challenge the party establishment, especially in Rust Belt states where President Donald Trump saw much unexpected success last November.
The activists arent daunted by the odds.
Democrats should be able to win in all these places, said Krystal Ball, founder of the Peoples House Project, which has endorsed its first candidate, Randy Bryce, an iron worker with an attention-getting advertising shtick who is running for House Speaker Paul Ryans seat in Wisconsins 1st Congressional District.
The Peoples House Project says it will run candidates in every Republican-held district in 2018, with an emphasis on Midwestern and Appalachian states. A central tenant of the organizations platform is that candidates cannot receive donations from big money donors, who Ball said have distorted the partys messaging and intentions.

(51,584 posts)and she had to put tons of her own money in. The DNC had better step up their game from local to federal levels. The Repubs have SOOOOO much money it is impossible to compete. I hope the small donations my relatives, neighbors and friends donate will be used to defete Repubs better. I don't need a "thank you" bumper sticker, I do need a Dem win however.

(58,639 posts)I just hope it is not too late. Part of this money should also be diverted into activism and lawsuits fighting gerrymandering and voter suppression, not to mention voter tally system upgrades.
There is a lot of grass roots organizing going on out there, with Indivisible and the Emily's list work. The DNC should coordinate with them whenever possible.
