I found myself offended that the victims of this drowning were identified as "black". Am I overreacting? I just don't think that if they were white they would have been identified by their race. It's very sad.

(115,673 posts)and maybe they were trying to find out who they were, but as the video went on it was apparent they knew who they were. So it does seem odd that their race was mentioned; I couldn't see why it was relevant. On the other hand the tone of the report seemed very sympathetic, so I don't know what they were thinking. Or maybe they weren't thinking at all?

(111,245 posts)then they're ASSumed to be white. From what I remember, it's just how things work down there and no disrespect was meant.
It looks like one of those tragic things, a little girl running into trouble and a man jumping in to rescue her and running into trouble, himself. It's just incredibly sad.

Just as background, this hotel is a mess. Much worse than it looks on the outside. In this case it was probably an affordable break from the homeless shelter where he could be with his daughter and take a swim.
