Attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya and Kremlin Connections

(The link below was posted in another thread here at DU, but I haven't seen this discussed. If it's a dupe, please let me know)

Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian attorney who met with Donald Trump Jr, et al, allegedly about dirt on Hillary Clinton or about Russian adoption depending on what you believe, answered "Nyet" when questioned by an MSNBC reporter about her connections to the Kremlin. The link goes to a March 31, 2017 document addressed to Dana Boente, Acting Attorney General, from the Senate Judiciary Committee about their concerns about the Justice Department's lack of enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). The document is a good read if you want to understand more about what's going on. To get to the point about Veselnitskaya's Russian connections, page 8 (especially point E):

C. Following that hearing, it was reported in the Russian press that Natalia Veselnitskaya filed a report with Congress containing evidence that the grounds for the Magnitsky Act were based on lies. She said, “ I am qualified to talk about it as a lawyer, and I am stating that I know the facts that can help the Congress to figure out this complicated story

...

E. Neither Natalia Veselnitskaya nor Rinat Akhmetshin filed any FARA or LDA filings with regards to this hearing. On information and belief, they are acting under the control/direction/influence of the Russian Government (see Section III), a FARA filing is required.

While lawyers representing foreign principals are exempt from filing under FARA, this is only true if the attorney does not try to influence policy at the behest of his client.

By disseminating anti-Magnitsky material to Congress, Ms. Veselnitskaya is clearly trying to influence policy and is therefore in violation of her filing requirements under FARA.
