(4,285 posts)The NY Times called him for comment and he Tweeted them out.
From The NY Times: On Tuesday morning, after being told that The Times was about to publish the content of emails setting up a meeting with a Kremlin-connected lawyer, Donald J. Trump Jr. posted the email chain on Twitter, along with a comment.

(19,558 posts)Which is why people are struggling to grasp what could have been the logic he used to come to his decision.
He validated the NYT as real news, chopped off the RW bloggers claim the NYT was using fake emails which had been altered in some way, and incriminated himself, Kushner, Goldstone and Manafort in one swift move.
You can't blame people for shaking their heads and wondering what the hell could he have possibly been thinking.

(24,519 posts)we couldn't grasp what he was doing...or trying to do. My sister was wondering if trump told jr. to fall on his sword to save everyone else and then trump would pardon him. Whatever the reason, it is crazy.

(6,383 posts)He knows daddy is going down and is going to bring their empire down with it like Madoff did.
Letting the NY Times publish and they decry it as fake, when obviously someone has gotten into stuff they thought was kept under wraps makes him look like part of the cover up. His lawyer probably told him if they can get that, then they can get more and your ass is grass.
So to make himself look like a "good guy" and possibly salvage some of the company for himself and own family, and who knows, cut a deal with prosecutors. He wasn't in the campaign "bigly" and is a small fish compared to everyone else.
That or dear old dad has to give him a pardon near the end.

(115,576 posts)They don't call him Fredo for nothing. But I have a theory that he's at least subconsciously trying to sabotage his old man and his brother-in-law, married to the child Daddy loves the most.

(44,057 posts)He attached a statement to his tweet that tries to spin it and explain it all away.
If I can find a link to the statement I"ll post a link. It is an attachment to his tweet so I may not be able to figure out how.
Link to tweet
click on the image he's tweeted and his statement will come up. It is Page one of three

(7,807 posts)He did it because (try not to laugh) he thinks it exonerates him (okay, you can laugh now).

(36,097 posts)Combine arrogance with stupidity, you could easily get a Trump Jr. believing he's just exonerated himself.

(53,061 posts)As he never obtained a government position he never made any statements under oath about meetings that he had.
The revelations are going to be tremendously damaging for Kushner and Manafort.
I am guessing that he is sending a message: "This is what you get when you minimize me".
It is old fashioned Shakespearean intrigue and payback in a family that is rotten at the core.

(13,769 posts)Is it clear in the e-mail chain that Kushner and Manafort would attend? I didn't see that, but haven't seen it all.

(31,464 posts)...once they can prove they're fake, they'll use them to further undermine the evil Mainstream Media as being "Fake News." American trust in the media will erode even further, and will embolden the Trumpsky Crime Family to do even more to use the United States Government as their own personal bank account/profit center.
Of course, I could be wrong.

(47,209 posts)Scoops them by asking to give him a little more time to comment! Instead he tweeted. Fools for trusting him by waiting. It just makes DT Jr look like he had less to hide.

(1,803 posts)So the treacherous leech made a strategic decision to get out ahead of the Times and try to spin the story and soften the blow preemptively.

(1,004 posts)... the right wing noise machine would shield him from immediate humiliation. But that hasn't happened because it's very, very, VERY hard to articulate a defense for all of this. Don't believe me? Go check out right wing sites right now. They've got nothing.
But don't worry, Hannity will ride to the rescue! Donald Trump, Jr. will allegedly be on tonight and I'm sure with all the time they have between now and then, the forces of Fox News and the Trump "administration" will be able to come up with something. I can't wait to read about it!

(9,942 posts)...would look better coming from him, with his explanation. If I were one of his lawyers, I would say release nothing and issue approved statements only. He likely has an "above the law" attitude about this, which runs in his family.

(1,089 posts)must be wondering WTF he's done taking on this clod as a client.
I'm also wondering if there are worse things out there about Fredo that we don't know about yet.
This still boggles my mind as one of the most moronic things I've seen in quite some time. With regards to this administration, that basically means yesterday.
