(43,890 posts)to destroy the cell phones with hammers when they're going to be disposed of, to ensure no data can be recovered. That is securing government sensitive information.

(491 posts)The CD's we dispose of working in Section-8 need to be destroyed as they hold personal information. A incinerator is the preferred method.

(13,340 posts)iPhones, for example, do not have an SD card. The memory is right on the PCB.
But it is true that IT devices being disposed of should be physically damaged to prevent data recovery. When I was government employee, we busted up hard rives all the time.
