Cop Who Killed Philando Castile Gets $48,500

St. Anthony, Minnesota made a decision to settle with Jeronimo Yanez, who killed Philando Castile, instead of firing him.

In a statement, the city said it made the agreement “to serve the public interest and quickly assure the public that Officer [Jeronimo] Yanez will not continue as a St. Anthony police officer.”

A reasonable voluntary separation agreement brings to a close one part of this horrible tragedy,” the statement continued. “The City concluded this was the most thoughtful way to move forward and help the community-wide healing process proceed.”

“Given the emotion that’s been involved with this and the public protests, St. Anthony is probably saying the most important thing to us is to wrap this up as quickly as we can,” Larson stated. Maybe it is what the city officials think but we think that Yanez has just got 50 grand for killing Philando Castile and that looks very much like a reward and a stimulus to continue.

Government unions are one of the few that are still robust. He was found Innocent in the eyes of the law but the police department for obvious reasons did not want anything more to do with him so they work out a deal with his rep to make the problem go away so to speak. FYI I'm not knocking unions here, just pointing out the nature of the beast.

On an aside I should also point out the officer that was cleared but fired in the Tamil Rice shooting was only fired because they found out during the investigation he lied on his 2013 application. Again, government work can be pretty secure but when It comes to fair employment and fair discipline you have to look at the principle known as "no free lunch".

If they don't have cause to fire him, then there's not another option but to buy him out.
