Jared Kushner admits he told Donald Trump about Donald Trump Jr.s Russia meeting

First came word from the New York Times that Donald Trumps own attorneys think Jared Kushner is giving Trump bad advice on how to handle the Russia scandal, in the hope of protecting himself at Trumps expense. Now comes word that, long before the news of Donald Trump Jr.s meeting with Russia hit the newswires, Kushner told Donald Trump about the meeting. This directly undermines Trumps own current attempt at a defense.
When the Trump Jr. story broke in the media, Donald Trump tried to claim that he had just learned about the meeting in the few days before it hit the wires. This was an attempt on his part at insulating himself from the serious crimes his son committed. But now the NY Times is reporting that Jared Kushner is admitting he told Donald Trump about the meeting back when he was revising the security clearance forms he had lied on (link). No specific timeframe is given for when he told him, but it would have been sometime around the end of May or the start of June.
And so Jared Kushner has just confirmed that Donald Trump is lying when he claims he didnt learn about the meeting until a few days ago. Its becoming more clear by the minute that Kushner is only interested in protecting himself. He was the one who informed the Feds about Trump Jr.s Russia meeting when he amended his clearance forms, meaning that hes the one who put all of the current developments in motion and he did that all to try to save himself from going to prison for lying on those forms..................................

With Glare on Trump Children, Political Gets Personal for President

...................While Donald Trump Jr. has been on the firing line, the meeting with Ms. Veselnitskaya could arguably be a bigger distraction for Mr. Kushner. As a senior adviser to the president, he is involved in several of the administrations most sensitive foreign-policy issues, from China to the Middle East peace process. His involvement in the meeting led reporters to ask the White House whether he still held his security clearance.
Also under scrutiny is how forthcoming Mr. Kushner was with his father-in-law about the nature of the June meeting. He met with Mr. Trump to discuss the issue, according to advisers to the White House, around the time he updated his federal disclosure form to include Ms. Veselnitskayas name on a list of foreign contacts that Mr. Kushner was required to submit to the F.B.I. to obtain a security clearance.
Mr. Kushner supplemented the list of foreign contacts three times, adding more than 100 names, people close to him said.
Mr. Kushner played down the significance of the meeting and omitted significant details, according to two people who were briefed on the exchange. They said Mr. Kushner informed the president that he had met with a Russian foreign national, and that while he had to report the name, it would not cause a problem for the administration.
Another official said Mr. Kushners assurance to the president was based on the fact that nothing came of the June meeting.
.............
In an interview with Reuters, Mr. Trump said he had not been told last summer that his son was meeting with a Russian lawyer. No, that I didnt know until a couple of days ago when I heard about this, he said..........................

(28,702 posts)i think there are 2 types of people who voted for trump: cult members, who literally would still support him even if he murdered someone on 5th avenue, and greedmeisters/racists, who didn't believe he would be such a total fuck up somehow and only cared that they thought their taxes would go down with a republican government. both involve a measure of delusion as far as i'm concerned. for instance democrats have historically stewarded the economy much, much more effectively than spendthrift republicans. in spite of the facts some people still vote for the republican on economic grounds.
i work with scientists, people with PhDs, MDs, they are smart people - but some of them did vote for trump. we don't talk politics any more (i make no bones about where i stand), but goddammit i just cannot believe that they could still support him after the past 6 months. i don't know. what the hell do i know.
i don't know why i don't ask - i would have said i don't want to embarrass them - but maybe it's because i just want to keep on believing they're smart people. at any rate i have to work with them so it's better this way.

(779 posts)Today, what percentage of Americans will admit voting for Trump? Then we can compare to the percentage who actually did, and adjust the 48 million number accordingly.

(9,974 posts)I'll have to search for it but just today one of them said that they knew in April about the meeting...
Here it is...Lankford from Oklahoma...they knew in April. So now we are to believe Congress knew a month or more before Kushner told Trump?

(3,976 posts)The problem is that the message getting through to the Trumpeters is always tweaked by Fox or Breitbart or whoever so that they don't see the straightforward lying that is going on.

(4,723 posts)There are so many lies out there now that they can't keep up with the stories anymore. I still believe nothing in the way of legal ramifications will come of any of this til at least 2018, but in the mean time I feel like a need a 100 foot long chalkboard and a case of chalk to keep up with this clusterfuck.

I'd stay off of small planes, private boats and winding roads too if I were him...Mueller should grab him now, turn him state's in exchange for complete cooperation. That son of a bitch doesn't deserve it, but I could see him falling to a terrible "accident"...

Not only is the man a liar, he's a piss poor liar. All this tap-dancing to avoid the inevitable wrecking ball. Sooner rather than later, I hope. Because the Republicans are on track to make a mess of things, as in bring the house down.
