http://www.wptv.com/news/state/depression-forms-continues-to-grow-at-land-o-lakes-homeLAND O' LAKES, Fla. A large sinkhole swallowed two homes and continues to grow in a neighborhood in Land O' Lakes on Friday morning. Surrounding homes were evacuated as a safety precaution.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office says the sinkhole, first reported as a depression, started out as the size of a small pool and a boat on the property was falling into the hole at approximately 7:56 a.m.
As of 8:23 a.m., the sinkhole expanded and reached the roadway. At least 10 surrounding homes were evacuated. Two homes have been destroyed due to the sinkhole.
You have to see the video at the link. It's horrifying. FPL has turned off power in the area. The street is swallowed up as well!!

(46,576 posts)I thought sinkholes occurred because the limestone caverns under the ground go dry and it creates a cave-in?

(8,812 posts)but not for partial*. This looks like total, however the article called it "a remediated home. According to the listing on Zillow, the property was a "repaired sinkhole" home."
This might be a pre-existing condition?
*partial failures are not covered because homeowners abused them, took the money, didn't repair the homes, paid them off and walked.
