Where are the American people. They cannot organize and get three GOPers to block this healthcare bill by Mitch McConnell?
Can they organize to accomplish that task?

(115,267 posts)I'd love to be able to participate in one of these protests but I understand they won't read or accept mail from people who don't live in the state. My senators are Franken and Klobuchar and my Congressman is Keith Ellison, which is great, except that I don't have any town halls to protest at.
Best of luck to everyone who has senators whose cages they can rattle.

(5 posts)Our other senator is Bill Nelson. He is a Dem and wants to keep Obamacare rolling. Rubio, after all the abuse he took in the Republican Primary, still follows in lockstep with the rest.

(15,681 posts)to come out so they could point to that as the final straw and vote no. It is also a cover for McTurtle so he can bail on his own bill. I hope it's true. Not that I want McTurtle to have a good excuse. I want him to suffer politically.

(7,587 posts)Susan Collins and Rand Paul have said there is no way they will vote for it.
This leaves McConnel with 0 vote margin. It is very likely dead since other senators like Dean Heller (Nevada) are very very likely to be no's. Heller came out with his governor (Brian Sandoval) a few weeks ago and he was pretty definitive he would not vote for anything that cuts medicaid. Sandoval has a very high approval in Nevada and so he provides Heller a good cover. Heller is up for reelection in 2018.
There are other like Murkowski (Alaska), Caputo (West Virginia) who are also very likely no's . The latest changes they made to the bills did not touch the massive medicaid cuts and so, did not address the concern of these senators.
Cruz's amendment which was aimed at getting conservatives on board is backfiring as big insurance companies are out denouncing it saying it would destroy the market and result in many people losing insurance as well as increased premiums.
Come Monday, when the CBO scoring comes out, it will be the last nail in the coffin. Of course this does not mean we should relinquish the pressure. The reason all these senators are no's is because of the public pressure.

Heller will do what ever Steve Wynn and Sheldon Adelson tell him to do. They put him in this Senate Seat after the Ensign embarrassment.

(20,043 posts)they can't gamble. Don't assume Wynn and Adelson support the bill.

(34,661 posts)But the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce is a totally owned tool of the Casino Moguls. There targeted audience is not the person who might need Medical Insurance at a affordable price. Their targeted suckers are those who have a certain amount of disposable income that will help their bottom line.
The persons affected the most will be their Employees and they could care less. And their Employees do not meet the disposable Income criteria to be bothered with.
Wynn is Trump's Campaign Chairman and Adelson has made statements about backing ACA repeal from the get go.

(11,175 posts)We have a comparatively small group where the organizing you describe might help. My two Democrats are already voting No.
One of the small group of those who matter is Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia. Last month, Bernie went to Charleston for a rally, which got a nice write-up (with photo and several quotations) in the Charleston Gazette-Mail. Just two days later, the same paper reported: "Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., announced Tuesday afternoon she does not support the current version of the GOP plan to replace the Affordable Care Act." Her statement mentioned such concerns as Medicaid funding and opioid treatment, which, strangely enough, were issues Bernie had emphasized.
At this point I'm optimistic that such organizing work will succeed. We'll win if Senators like Capito hear enough screaming from their constituents.
