Wow! 2 INCH blood clot removed from McCain's head

http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/17/health/mccain-blood-clot-surgery-significant-bn/index.html

This may explain McCain's recent odd behavior during hearings! 5cm (2 Inch) blood clot in the brain...

"Surgeons at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix "successfully removed the 5-cm blood clot during a minimally invasive craniotomy with an eyebrow incision," the statement said.

An eyebrow incision is not a big deal, explained CNN Chief Medical Correspondent and practicing neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta, but the bone was opened to gain access to the brain, Gupta explained on CNN's New Day Monday.

"It's a significant operation," he said, adding that general anesthesia was used and "there was obviously an abnormality that was concerning enough for him to go through this.""

You know he'll say something snarky.

Here's the thing, I wish McCain nothing but the best in his health, hope he recovers fully. But thousands of other lives are on the line with the Health Care Bill vote. If McCain doesn't recover and can't vote thousands of American lives will be saved, so with that in mind, whatever saves thousands of lives in regards to McCain's health is what I wish.

Even (maybe, *especially*) his most rabid followers would believe the "come-to-Jesus" moment of medical revelation. I can't believe McCain will run again, so why not go out being kind of a good guy?

the result of hers was a diagnosis of brain cancer. In February, she had a seizure and was on her bathroom floor for 3 days before she was found. She had the operation and was told it was an aggressive cancer. They gave her 6 months. I'm noticing that she is very forgetful and has some trouble putting words together.

He's one of the "more normal" Repubs.

And surgery of any time at that age is no walk in the park.

McCain's confused questioning of Comey in the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing sparked a twitter storm of speculation about his health and the likelihood that he had just experienced a stroke since altered verbal communications is often a "clear" symptom. The NYTimes article speculates (and that's all anyone can do at this point) that a stoke may have been the reason that prompted McCains surgery.

"McCain’s Surgery May Be More Serious Than Thought, Experts Say

The cause of the clot has not been disclosed. The possibilities include a fall or a blow to the head, a stroke or certain brain changes associated with aging. Mr. McCain is 80."

one within the vascular structure and one outside the vascular structure.
Generally the blood clot within the structure is called an embolus and that is what causes a stroke.
You do not go through a brow incision to retrieve those...you hopefully have enough time to give a tissue plasminogen activator that busts the embolus.

I feel bad about laughing at some of his recent confusion. There have been times, over the decades, where I've had respect for things that he has stood for. Of course, there's more that I disagree with him on. But I hope for the best for him.

risked his life for his fellow POWs when he refused to go to the front of the prisoner swap line. At the time he had multiple broken bones and was in a life threatening situation.

He also stepped up to the plate in helping Vietnam and US establish diplomatic relations, which could not have been easy for him given the facts of his imprisonment there.

Finally, when his wife was in Bangladesh and took an orphan child out of a hospital and brought her to the US for life saving medical treatment he agreed to adopt her the minute he met her.

There is a lot to disagree with him but on a personal level he has been a stand up guy on many occasions.
