something to destroy President Obama's legacy. Mere words are inadequate to express the depth of hatred and contempt I feel for that vile, contemptible, miserable asshole.

(111,254 posts)and that will provide the Democrats with a perfect issue for 2018.
Should it be killed with nothing to replace it, the whole system will collapse with hospitals closing all over the country. Got a hot appendix? Tough shit, I guess.

(68,556 posts)DOA. I am surprised that McConnell is throwing Senators under the bus though....not smart.

(111,254 posts)After all, the ACA was basically the Heritage Foundation plan, the wet dream the right cherished for years of leaving for-profit insurance in the catbird seat and the gravy train for investors firmly on the rails. The reason for all the flying spittle in that party is because a black man got it passed. There is no other real objection.
For all their increasing rhetoric about its implosion and the imminent destruction of life as we all know it, they have not one single shred of evidence to back that up.
However, should they repeal it with nothing to replace it, expect the whole system to be in chaos and the effect in poor states like mine to be nothing short of devastating.
As for Senators being thrown under the bus, note how many of those are women. This is also typical of McConnell and his rotten party. Likely he'll blame the defeat of the glorious repeal of Obama's legacy on those damned, sentimental females who should never have been elected to the Senate, can't make the tough decisions, can they?

(68,556 posts)he has such contempt for even women in his own party, they were not allowed in the room with the men folk during the health care bill work. They need to sit down and shut up don't you know...sorry McConnell we won't go back.

(13,421 posts)From the beginning, I had the feeling this entire dog and pony show was Paul Ryan's wet dream that meshed with trump's campaign promises. Yes, Ryan really is enough of a douche that he'd like to kill off a bunch of poor people--don't ever doubt it. Ryan jammed the House version through and suddenly the political feces started hitting the fan. Town Halls got really ugly, calls were pouring into the local and DC offices, and there was not a lot of doubt that this healthcare thing is a big old stinking political albatross that the GOP will end up owning.
The Senate, however, had enough "sane" (less crazy, maybe?) Republicans that are not willing to put their own seats on the line for anybody-including Mitch, Ryan, and the rotting mango in the Whitehouse (who was already undercutting this repeal in public!) IMO, what we are seeing is Mitch, putting on the show, with every realization that the repeal was DOA, and maybe even kinda quietly hoping it was gonna go away. I look for the spin to be, "We tried to help you stupid people, but the mean evil Democrats and stinkin' LIBERALS kept us from doin' it! Because, umm, BENGHAZI!" This way, the redneck/racist/trump base won't revolt, they get to keep their seats, and they all get to strut and preen some more.
'Cause none of us actually think any of those assholes are doing this to help the rest of us.

(18,628 posts)He knows it's impossible to get 2/3 votes so he will have to kill the filibuster to have a chance at getting it passed.
The filibuster for judges is already gone so he's going to finish the job.

(3,977 posts)President Obama vetoed it.
It makes it tougher for Republicans to oppose it since they're already on record with a vote in favor.

(37,428 posts)It's all been kabuki. The Senate and House bills have been radioactive, and full repeal would take more votes than they could ever get...but the GOP committed themselves to the myth that the ACA was evil and is hurting America. They really wanted to pass their tax cuts, but not so much that they are willing to hand Congress back to Democrats in '18.
This last attempt will fail, and it will be McConnell's excuse to abandon repeal as requiring too many votes.
mnmoderatedem
(3,727 posts)but no one knows what the makeup of the Senate will be after mid terms. This is just for show.

(32,080 posts)But, he'll run into the same problem he's having now: Not enough votes. Republicans may be stupid, but there are enough moderates that realize that throwing their constituents off health insurance for even two years will be a death knell for their days in the Senate. They know that doing this could very well insure that the Democrats take back both the House and Senate next year, and they will be the ones who get to install the replacement.
If McConnell thinks this will turn out any different than any of his other attempts, he's even more deluded than I thought.
