(30,481 posts)It has happened this year with respect to some of the bills the Republicans have sent to them. The CBO will make certain assumptions. There were parts of Trumps original budget that they wouldn't go as far as making the necessary assumptions as there was too little to go off of. They have limits on how far they will go with their assumptions.

(64,989 posts)Astrologers sure don't. There's no technical basis to make assumptions of any kind. At least in the CBO case, there is some history and logic behind the assumptions. And, they openly declare the "what if's" needed to make the projections accurate.
Oh yeah: And Rand Paul is an idiot.

(30,481 posts)Many can and have declared their assumptions. Here we have a situation where an absolute statement fails absolutely.
"There's no technical basis to make assumptions of any kind."
Yes, there are. Assumptions are made in just about every single CBO report. These assumptions are technical in nature.
"And Rand Paul is an idiot."
True that.

(64,989 posts)My statement about no technical basis was about astrologers, not the CBO. As someone who has done tons of mathematical modeling over my career, i know that, and you're completely correct. But, while an astrologer might make an assumption, there is no technical basis for it. The CBO is a completely different story.

(Guess: to arrive at an opinion about (something) without having sufficient evidence to support the opinion).

Rand Paul should be the poster child for the "Party of No".
