CBO: 22 million would lose coverage under Senate ObamaCare replacement
About 22 million people would lose health insurance coverage in the next decade under the most recent revision of the Senates ObamaCare replacement bill, according to a new Congressional Budget Office analysis.
Because the legislation retains two of ObamaCares taxes, the CBO estimates it would reduce the deficit by about $420 billion by 2026.
The number of uninsured is essentially unchanged from the original draft of the legislation released last month. Its also far more than the uninsured rate under the Affordable Care Act.
Premiums would rise under the legislation until 2020, when they would be about 30 percent lower than under the current law. But most older people would still face higher premiums than younger people, the CBO said.
Notably, the CBO did not score an amendment added to the bill by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) that would let insurers opt out of ObamaCare regulations as long as they also sell ObamaCare-compliant plans.
