By Jeff Taylor · Wednesday, July 19, 2017
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has said families would be justified in committing honor killings of their gay relatives.
If we have such people here, then Im telling you officially, their relatives wont let them be, because of our faith, our mentality, customs and traditions, Kadyrov said. Even if its punishable under the law, we would still condone it, he added, PinkNews reports.
Kadyrov has denied the existence of gay and bisexual people in the region whenever challenged about reports of the abduction, torture, and killings of over 100 men. Gay and bi men are reportedly being killed by both Chechen police forces as well as by their families once outed by the roundups.
He repeated the claim in an interview with HBO that aired on Tuesday, saying that if there are such people in Chechnya, they should be sent to Canada to purify our blood. He added that those who report being abducted and abused are lying, calling them devils.

(35,300 posts)This was only a bit more obvious a decade ago than the big glowy thing in the sky around noon most days that aren't really cloudy.
Not long after it was vehemently denied that Russia was a foe, the person who said Russia was a foe was roundly mocked for saying something that was virtually treasonous, and then we had yet another go at "resetting" relations with Putin.
Three years ago it became even more obvious that Kadyrov was a thug. Lots of Chechens fighting in the Donbas. Fighting against what many called "fascists." Some of the fascists were Jewish and gay. The Chechens were fighting the Jewish, gay fascists for "self-determination." Until we hit Russia with sanctions. Then suddenly Putin and Kadyrov weren't necessarily good guys.
Putin and his acolytes only really became bad, their hacking attempts a concern, with it hurt HRC and helped Trump.
As for Kadyrov, remember: Putin flattened Groznyi and treated the rest of Chechnya the same way. Kadyrov was put in power as a result, and handsomely rewarded. As a result, Russia is now a great country. On the other hand, Ukraine sent in some units to help quell the Chechen uprising, and Ukraine is now forever evil as a result. It helps explain the Chechens in the Donbas. All the hatred was focused on a bit player in the drama.
From the point of view of a Chechen, Kadyrov should be considered as Quisling. But because he framed things "correctly" and paid off those who couldn't be manipulated, he's very popular. He has a bit of an extremist problem with those who consider him a bit milquetoastish, but conflicts like the Donbas and Syria provide a nice place for them to go, be extremist, and then be dead.

Guess whether they will find any mistreatment.
