65% of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents say they are likely to vote next year

poll/ 65% of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents say they are likely to vote next year, compared to 57% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents. "The survey results suggest … Democrats have not been able to capitalize yet on voter antipathy toward Trump. For one thing, Americans who strongly disapprove of Trump do not appear to be any more motivated to vote than the average American." (Washington Post)

It's likely the vocal nutjobs at his rallies and in the salacious media stories didn't vote. They never vote. They aren't going to START voting. They just found themselves suddenly 'represented' in all their victimization and anti-librals!! furor by Crooked Trump.

I'm guessing this article just reflects what's been the norm. Republicans vote for Republicans

Not sure why the Democratic statistic is lower

Here in Miami. I've mentioned this in previous posts. There is a local election on July 25th. They have waves of volunteers going door to door every day along with relentless phone calls and yard signs everywhere. Seemingly half the yards in my neighborhood have a Diaz sign along with one business after another.

There has been nothing close to this magnitude from either side, whether I lived in Florida, Nevada or California. Initially I thought they were targeting my sister, a registered Republican who previously lived at my house. The mailings are in her name. But suddenly they started coming to the door asking for me, and calling me on the phone, even though I'm a registered Democrat. They didn't care, no matter how many times I barked them away. I tell them I would never vote for a Republican as long as I live. They call back the next day. The attitude is they are pursuing every vote and don't care how many times they are rebuffed.

I have no idea if this translates elsewhere but it is certainly troubling to me. I would dismiss it if a normal Republican were in office. But since it's Trump everything is suddenly difficult to handicap. They may have several times the zest as typical, determined to protect their guy via numbers everywhere.

Our assumptions regarding 2018 are poor. Independents need to slant toward our side. We will not win based on superior motivation or energy. Republicans may be stupid. They act on those stupid opinions, including at the ballot box.
