The canary in the mine??

Youngest Son is a long-distance truck driver. His first time out no one would respond to the newbie. Wanting to stir things up, he announced that he'd voted for Obama and was going to vote for Hilary. Pandemonium. From then on all he heard was pro Trump this and pro Trump that. Trump could do no wrong. Trump was sacrosanct. Until today. This morning Youngest Son called to say he was stuck in a traffic slow-down on I-75 south of Macon, with lots of back-and-forth among the drivers. Trump was no longer sacrosanct. He was the butt of their jokes. Youngest Son said it was a huge about-face, that these drivers have been all Trump, that maybe, just maybe, the tide is turning. (If I may mix my metaphors.) Let us hope. Let us fervently hope.

That's generally speaking a pretty conservative crowd. Guess they are tired of all the winning?

I'm curious as to what made the difference to them. Health care?Russia? Surely not the press secretary/communications dust-up. I have no idea, but maybe, just maybe, he really couldn't get away with shooting someone in Times Square, like he said during the campaign. Again, let us hope, let us fervently hope.

....these guys can thank Teamsters for a livable wage, benefits, etc. A union that the GOP hates. They talk morals, sanctity of marriage, etc. Yet a number probably use the "services" at a truck stop that the truck stop doesn't sponsor. Their jobs literally depend on public funded and subsidized roads, if they weren't, rail would become king again.

Only thing I can think of, conservative talk radio...telling them what they want to hear. And on a number of long hauls, can brainwash them.

Youngest Son rents audio books, is learning a lot, gets a lot of pleasure from them. He's always been our nomad, so this job is perfect for him.
