"President Trump, I will tell you, you will get it, don't worry about it," Trump told the crowd aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford.
Trump Starts Referring To Himself In Third Person During Incoherent Naval Carrier Speech
During his speech aboard USS Gerald R. Ford on Saturday, Donald Trump veered off course and started referring to himself in the third person.
The moment came when Trump was discussing his proposal to massively increase military spending as part of his disastrous budget blueprint. He told those in the crowd to give him a little hand and call their representatives in Congress.
Video:
Trump said:
Now we need Congress to do its job and pass the budget that provides for higher, stable and predictable funding levels for our military needs that our fighting men and women deserve. And you will get believe me. President Trump, I will tell you, you will get it, dont worry about it. But I dont mind getting a little hand, so call that congressman and call that senator and make sure you get it. And by the way, you can also call those senators to make sure you get health care.
..............................................
While Trumps budget does include massive increases in military spending, which the Pentagon isnt even asking for, it makes devastating cuts to other important areas, including Medicaid, education, and environmental programs.

Here is what they transcribed:

Here is the way it should be transcribed:
And you will get believe me, president Trump. I will tell you, you will get it, dont worry about it.
Rambling, maybe. Incoherent, somewhat. But the third person thing, not really. I was much more interested in his asking people to call their senators and demand healthcare (as if it didn't already exist with ACA).
That was the most disturbing part for me, as well. Yet another reminder that he not only doesn't know what he's doing, he doesn't even understand what he's talking about.
It's not so much that he's in water over his head; it's that he's drowning and wants someone to get a shovel and dig him out.

(13,390 posts)It's actually a PR and political technique. Remember Bob Dole?
Elizabeth Ossoff, an expert in political communication at St Anselm College, also sees Trump as a special case, partly because he is so prolific in his use of the third person.
But her advice to politicians is not to overuse the technique, as in her view people tend to find it "off-putting", and un-presidential.
"The use of the third person creates an unwelcome distance. We Americans want our presidents to be regular people but not too regular. We still put them up on a pedestal but want them to be humble about it since we put them in office. It's an odd contradiction at times," she says.

(18,402 posts)For a moment, I hoped to myself (in the first person) that maybe he, too, might have a brain tumor. A big one. Really big.
I know it's wrong to hope that. I've just run out of rational things to hope for, like Congressional action. All I'm left with is the g.s. video or a brain tumor.

(7,521 posts)I think it was supposed to be an appositive phrase: "I, The Wizard of Oz, declare to you..." but his usual train crash clause structure ruins any sort of clarity. Also, the direct object form of that just sounds weird. "Believe me, President Trump, I will..."
"Believe me; I, The Great Trumponi, will make your tax money appear in the pockets of these wealthy oligarchs!"

(959 posts)during Joy's show this am. The rage in this guy was barely leashed. He kept grimacing and contorting his face, as if he could hardly keep the vitriol inside. I thought at any second he would just blow sky high. Never witnessed a major public figure doing this.....but the old film of Mussolini raging back in the 30's comes real close.

This is crazy. Are these bots?
How can people listen to his disconnected ramblings and say "historic" and "excellent?"
