What's wrong with this guy? He's going on about the electoral college and the popular vote.
Really????
Awkward!

(24,259 posts)would be an understatement. To him Trump is the antithesis of what Scouting is supposed to be about.

(27,803 posts)I'm sure they invite most, if not all, Presidents, to their Jamboree, and the kids can't help what he says to them. But for them to boo Hillary is making me so effing angry I'm about ready to burst in to tears. How much more does she have to take? First Schumer, now this.

You're correct that it's sort of normal for presidents to speak at the national jamboree but the past presidents at least were semi good examples for kids to follow.
Apparently at this jamboree Obama and Hillary were both booed. Safely I'm increasingly getting the feeling that the BSA has slide quite a way downhill. If booing a past president and first lady is acceptable it's not an org I personally will back now.

(27,803 posts)I think scouting changed him, frankly. He's from a very liberal family, grew up in the Bay Area, we were always close. But after he got into scouting, he became really enamored of weapons and shooting, and his social media pictures of himself are of him holding an automatic weapon of some sort, standing in a Jeep, with a HUGE American flag. He also hung a giant flag at the end of the dock at the family cabin.
He apparently also really dislikes Hillary (which is against the prevailing norm in the rest of the family). I can't figure out where he learned to be this way except in Scouts, which is really too bad. I was a Girl Scout, I liked it just fine, but it didn't change me (other than the fact I can build a better fire than he can, despite his Eagle Scout rank!)

I was a GS too eons ago and "liked it just fine" sums it up for me too. My granddaughters that are old enough are now involved and really love it. From what I'm seeing/hearing it's become a more nurturing, empowering and more openly progressive org than when I was in back in the early 70s.

(27,803 posts)and earning badges for things like swimming and horseback riding. I didn't like sleeping in tents or "mystery soup", but overall it was a decent enough experience. I actually liked learning about Juliette Low and the organization, too. And I got to carry the flag in a local Memorial Day parade once or twice.
We certainly never had propaganda drilled into our heads. What I saw from today was absolutely antithetical to my experience.
To put yourself in another's place requires real imagination, but by doing so each Girl Scout will be able to love among others happily. - Juliette Low

(24,259 posts)Hubby's in his 60s and says the BSA is so different from when he was a scout. He's been upset and very quiet after watching snippets of Trump at the Jamboree and told me he'll be writing the BSA in the morning when he can think clearer.

He almost sent his Eagle award back to the BS in protest of their homophobic policies.

(7,581 posts)But the ones there cheered the "fake news," killing the ACA and booed Obama, who actually was a Boy Scout.
The weirdest thing was Trump kept marveling at the large crowd and taunting the media, like they were there for him? Alzheimers in full bloom. He also, sounded medicated.

(999 posts)A little background first. I am currently an adult leader in a Troop. I was a Scout and both my boys are Scouts. The Scout Jamboree is held every 4 years in Beckley West Virginia. It cost $1100.00 to attend the Jamboree for the full 10 days. As other posters have stated It Is not uncommon for the President to address the Scouts but to in past years the comments are always about Scouting itself. Unfortunately you are dealing with teenage boys who have never seen a President in person and they behaved poorly. The leadership of the BSA made a horrible decision in allowing Trump to speak because he thinks that he is at A pep rally. I am very disturbed that the BSA didn't think this through.
