Our son was an Eagle Scout years ago and none of us are Republicans, or voted for Trump.

Scouts, for all the negatives out there, instilled a sense of honor in boys, and taught them practical life skills such as how to repair a faucet, build things (our son built a shade structure for a local park as his Eagle Scout project), do community service, outdoor skills, and much more. He was a member long before the gay issues arose, which were unfortunate.

I know plenty of Scouting families who were progressive minded, and no doubt across the nation, many are livid at what Trump did.

It is tradition for the Jamboree to invite the current President, so this wasn't an effort by Scouts to indoctrinate kids. Obama was invited but couldn't make it, so did a speech via video, I understand.

But Scouts should right this wrong by sending a letter of apology to every scout who was there, making clear that it was inappropriate for the president to voice political views and encourage scouts to do so, knowing that many scouting families undoubtedly diasgree with those views. Apologize to all, and send a letter to the White House explaining that the rule has changed, and Trump will no longer be invited to any future Scouting Jamborees.

17. I'm seriously considering returning my eagle. This is despicable.

When I'd first earned Eagle in 1984, I had a scout master who refused to give me the award after I told him I was an atheist. But a year later a more progressive leader replaced him and I was given a full court of honor. So this has me torn, because I know that not all scouts are on the Hitler Jugend bandwagon. Many are just as disgusted as I am right now.

Suggest everyone flood them and demand an apology and more than that, that they contact every Scout who was there to let them know how wrong this was, that no Scout should dishonor a president (ie Obama) with negative chants, that no president should use profanity, and that it was wrong of Trump to voice political views with which many Scouting families and leaders no doubt disagree. I suggest every Scout, former Scout, parent, Scout leader especially voice their disgust with this.
