(82,849 posts)Why didn't you explain that to the madman you invited to address the Jamboree yesterday? And what are you going to do to repair your error and make sure it doesn't happen again?

(11,847 posts)They are dead to me. That exhibition last night was the scariest thing yet in this reign of terror by Donnie 2scoops.
I am very concerned (Democrats words) that the Republic is lost.
WHere are the elected Democrats in this? Where is their anger?

(28,270 posts)The leadership of the scouts need to hold a national press conference and condemn Trump's horrible political speech in no uncertain terms!
The pussy grabber is the worst speaker they could have invited to speak in front of those kids and they know it!
NO EXCUSES! I am an ex-scout from long ago who will spend the rest of my life in opposition to the BSA if they don't do this I guarantee that!

(62,444 posts)I'm getting the distinct impression that a sizeable chunk of folks on DU don't "get" the BSA, and assume they would be in any manner offended by anything Trump did or said.
That's ridiculous. They were cheering it on the whole time. It's who they are, and what they are about.

(28,270 posts)Well then the BSA leadership needs to come out 100% for fucking republicanism and Fuhrer Dump and stop trying to pretend to be neutral!
Go full on Hitler/Trump youth BSA so we can put you in with all the other fascist hate groups like skinheads and the KKK.
Stop beating around the bush liars!

(25,241 posts)and far from an apology. They should have said something to address the behavior by the crowd - leaders and scouts - that it was unbecoming of them and certainly not in line with the Scout Laws (i.e., Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.)

(32,626 posts)The BSA should have stopped this immediately but they didn't.
They allowed themselves (and the innocent children) to be used shamelessly by this charlatan.
Never again! Keep Trump away from these children who don't understand what they're cheering for.
But Trump will use them anyway because he has to get an adoring audience somehow.

(18,124 posts)It is obvious where this country is headed. What scary times when a sitting potus is ruining the next generation or two with poisonous politics.....sad indeed what the DEPLORABLES HAVE GIVEN us. A useless, to the american people, puppet of bannon.

.. just like the Hitler youth in the 30's?
This has nothing to do with what the "organization"

This is fascism on steroids.

(15,543 posts)No courage, no honor, no respect.
The BSA has shit the ethical bed.
Now they must live with the foul stench they have so cravenly permitted, a stench that will drive decent people to distance themselves from a once-great but now degenerate institution.

They need to say outright that Trump's comments were inappropriate--deplorable, even.

(65,307 posts)and even if he has prepared remarks, he almost always departs from the prepared text to brag about his election, to slam Obama and Hillary, to deride the free press as "fake news," and to spew innumerable other lies and insults against anyone who doesn't obey or praise him or anything that doesn't serve his ego.
That sort of behavior during his speeches is predictable, because with only a couple of exceptions (like when he read his SOTU address without adlibbing), that is what he always does, no matter where he is speaking or what he is supposed to be speaking about.

(16,072 posts)Then someone should have told him, but the BSA hierarchy, either didn't have the courage to tell him...or agree with his views!
I'll bet, before the end of the year the BSA will be changing their policy on gay and transgender scouts and leaders!!!

(8,964 posts)By ignoring and not condemning Trump's actual remarks, BSA is giving tacit approval to them and essentially inviting him back for another round of hate speech.

(12,448 posts)We KNOW that inviting a U.S. president is a "long standing tradition" and that the BSA is supposed to be non-partisan. They needed to condemn Trump's remarks in the strongest possible terms. They missed what could have been a teachable moment for the Scouts themselves.
