And right on cue, the R holdouts fall into line...because that was always their job
Is anyone surprised that Heller and Paul and the other R "I have deep concerns about the legislation" fakirs have miraculously fallen into lockstep behind yet another R bait-and-switch?
You shouldn't be surprised. This is SOP for Rs. They always, ALWAYS designate a couple of holdouts to controversial legislation. Their job is to furrow their brows and express their deep concerns. They get to go on TV, they are discussed by the talking heads. Their profile gets raised at no cost while the Rs can claim that "serious discussions are taking place" behind closed doors.
But in the end, they miraculously come around to the position that they were always going to come around to: supporting the hard right agenda.
The only question to still be answered is whether Heller et al caving gives the Rs a unanimous vote for the legislation. If THAT is the case, then Heller and one other R in a swing state will be allowed to vote against the legislation because doing so will help their politics back in their home state.
So obvious.
