trCHUMP is in Youngstown,OH tonight and this was in my local news report

This was on the 6'oclock news, Channel 2, WDTN out of Dayton, OH, and they had a report from Youngstown.

They asked people in a local restaurant if they regretted their votes.

It was a mixed reaction but the one that struck me and made my jaw hit the floor was, and this is very close to what a woman said...

(paraphrased because I don't remember exactly what she said and there is no vid link yet but it is very close)

"He's made promises that he hasn't kept, but at least he made them."

WTF!!!

"HE'S MADE PROMISES THAT HE HASN'T KEPT, BUT AT LEAST HE MADE THEM".

This woman also said she didn't vote in Nov. but if he ran again she would vote for him and apparently that's the reason why.

This is from an area that usually votes for Democrats but voted for trCHUMP this time.

Is this what we are up against? Really???

If it is...Is America doomed?

I try to stay optimistic but reports like this make me wonder.

I don't know...I just don't know.

Thank goodness for DU.

And this is why I keep harping on the notion that Democrats need to go to places like Youngstown. Yes, it's fun going to Cleveland or Detroit or some other big city and getting the royal treatment before friendly crowds. But you go to Youngstown, and you get a chance to mix with the locals, tell them about the Democratic platform without Fox filtering everything, and you get a chance to hear knuckleheaded stuff like "at least Trump made promises." Then you get to make promises about how Democrats will fight for better wages and working conditions.

Then you go back to Youngstown. Again. Trump's going there, why don't we? Go through there a couple of days later with a very different message. In addition to everything else, it makes the folks in those areas who are working hard for Democrats feel a lot better about their work. Bring in a heavy hitter along with a young hopeful. Let the people of Youngstown get to know who we are.

Then go to Youngstown again, and explain how disastrous today's Senate vote will be if the Republicans follow through on gutting the Affordable Care Act so that wealthy people who have more money than can spend in three lifetimes can have even more money out of the federal treasury.

Then go to Youngstown again.

Democrats need to counter the lies and misinformation with repetition of the good that the Democrats have done while highlighting the damage done by the other side.

she is happy that he made promises to screw over people who aren't just like her.

If she gets screwed over in the process, she can at least be happy that he's also screwing those she hates.

This is what we're up against: people for whom hate is more powerful than love for their families.

Look, I get why some people were attracted to Trump's "telling it like it is" even if a lot of his "brutal honesty" was actually a bunch of falsehoods. I actually wish more Democrats had that kind of style and were more pugnacious. But at some point you need to deliver for people.

Democrats need to pound Trump on his failure to deliver on his promises and we need to do a better job reaching some of these people although frankly some of them are probably beyond reaching because they live in a right-wing news bubble.
