(51,308 posts)I saw Trump signs on the lawns of very wealthy people in my usually blue city.
These people are bankers, doctors, lawyers in a growing southern city, a county that went for Hillary.
You're fooling yourself if you think it's only rural folks.

They are probably personally repulsed by Trumps behavior. But, they ignore it. Because of their greed.
My opinion, anyway.

(4,533 posts)We had bounties for killing Native American. We enslaved black people. We ran the Chinese out of towns. We racially segregated. We discriminated against Papists. Now we want to round up and deport the Hispanics, block the Muslims. This is standard politics, nothing new. And not just here -
Trump is just the latest.
It sucks but it shouldn't surprise us.

And you're right, "it's not just here." What other country, in their history, has not done despicable things? There must be a couple. Point is that much of homo sapiens are selfish and often horribly cruel. But we are evolving and have improved.

(4,533 posts)Extreme poverty, childhood diseases, etc are sharply lower over the past few decades. Trump is just a minor bump in the road in the face of improving history.

Obama should've probably let the country fall into a deep Depression. We are ungrateful and actually hateful. On both sides.
