The president of the Boy Scouts needs the Trump administration to approve his mega-merger

Here it is.

Randall Stephenson is probably best known in corporate circles as the chairman and chief executive of telecommunications giant AT&T, but he has also been president of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) since May of 2016.

The two roles are suddenly presenting him with an unusual conflict. Some parents are angry at the scouting group’s management after US president Donald Trump gave a political speech at the scouts’ “annual jamboree” on Monday in West Virginia. The tens of thousands of boys in attendance, aged 11 to 17, booed Hillary Clinton and former president Barack Obama, and cheered as Trump derided the Washington, DC “cesspool” and “fake media.” . . .

But to issue such an apology might put Stephenson in a tough spot. In his other role, he has been trying to court Trump and the administration as AT&T shepherds its $85 billion deal for Time Warner though the Department of Justice (DOJ). The department is currently conducting an antitrust review, which evaluates how the deal would affect competition in the industry. The process is supposed to be private and apolitical, but there are concerns in Congress that president Trump is trying try to influence it.

Trump said on the campaign trail that the deal “concentrates too much power in the hands of too few,” and since he was elected president has railed against Time Warner’s CNN and its coverage of his administration. White House advisors have reportedly considered (paywall) using their influence on the deal as leverage against CNN, and one advisor said the administration won’t support the merger if CNN president Jeff Zucker remains in his role. Trump, meanwhile, has been publicly dressing down the DOJ’s top official, attorney general Jeff Sessions, over other matters.

Stephenson himself has had “several calls” with the president to lobby for the deal, the New York Post reports, and visited him at Trump Tower before the inauguration. He also attended a White House meeting on technology in June, where he was seated next to Trump, who praised him for his management style.

Stephenson needs to resign from the Boy Scouts . He's chosen money over the Boy Scout values and American values!

This was the Boy Scouts jamboree, NOT a political rally!!! Doesn't Trump know the difference?
What are children doing, booing Obama or Clinton?
Who set that up? Or have the scouts been taken over by republicans?
Where were the SCOUT LEADERS, telling their scouts NOT to boo?

I'm disgusted that these kids made any comments about our political leaders. Aren't these jamborees international? How embarrassing on a world stage. I now have a very different view of the Boy Scouts and UNLESS the Boy Scouts DENOUNCE this crazy, unstable person, I will look down on this organization, that I thought was a place for character building!

Did Stephenson encourage the scout leaders to support Trump and his ego at the rally?

Trump is taking everything Americans value down with him!

If he resigns though, Trump in a vindictive SOB. I do not know much about the potential ATT merger, but I am sure Trump would just try to kill it for spite. The merger should be evaluated on its legality and potential impact on the county and consumers, not on Trump's vindictiveness.

Trump chose to use a captive audience of male youth for a political photo/video op. Pathetic.

They knew what they were more than likely getting into, when they invited him to their 4 year event. They knew that he was going to sprout all kinds of nonsense to these kids.

I hope that they allowed follow-up speakers to refute what tRUMP said. I doubt it, since they allowed this garbage show (tRUMP) to perform in front of their boys. This is child endangerment, exposing their young minds to the garbage that tRUMP was spewing out (including bragging about what's going on, on a fellow billionaire's boat (tRUMP stopped himself here)).

Another example of tRUMP's sickening behavior

Does he own the BSA? If there's a board of directors they should remove him or the BSA will implode.... and should.
Anothe thing of history B88 has destroyed.

Better yet, divest from AT&T and resign from it instead. Then clean up the mess at BSA. That would teach some realistc honor. Not holding my breath.

The Scouting News website lists the members of the National Executive Board. Three of that board's members are employees of the BSA.

National President (Volunteer): Randall Stephenson (see above post and replies)
National Commissioner (Volunteer): Charles W. Dahlquist II
Chief Scout Executive (Employee): Michael Surbaugh
Assistant Chief Scout Executive - Development (Employee): Brad Farmer, in charge of fund-raising
Chief Financial Officer (Employee): Michael Ashline

Who's that other Volunteer, the Dahlquist dude? Good question. His bio reads like he lives, breathes, eats, sleeps,... Scouting. Oh and by the way,

"A Utah native, attorney, and civic and community leader, Dahlquist has served as Young Men General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as chair of the General Church Scouting Committee from 2004-2009, and as a Mission President for the LDS Church in the Germany Hamburg Mission."
