and health care, there are a lot of legislators who are wanna-be doctors. If they wanted to be doctors making decisions about health care and in particular women's health care, why didn't they go to college to learn to be a doctor?

Maybe that took too long and more smarts than they can muster up?
If they want to legislate in that manner, maybe it would behoove them to at least study and familiarize themselves with women's anatomy.

I seriously doubt if they know even the basics of it except for sex.

In its simplest form, they consider the sexual revolution corrosive to patriarchy and want to make sure that casual sex in women is again "punished" by forced parenthood.
