(52,791 posts)Is this supposed to mean that, recess or not, there will just be an "acting AG" until the midterms?

(21,560 posts)45 wants Sessions to quit so he can recess appoint an A.G. while congress is on break? Can he do that? I know recess appointments can be made under certain circumstances but not familiar with cabinet appointments.

(59,583 posts)There's some pro forma exercise that lets Congress stay "in session" even when almost everybody is out of town, and they're already announced they're going to do just that next month.

(4,033 posts)that the Dems are going to use some arcane rule that will prevent the Senate from formally adjourning, so as long as one lone Senator can gavel the Senate into session, then dismiss for the day.
Seems to me that the GOP used the same tactic on Obama (NTSB appt?) at some point and the court ruled that Obama couldn't make a recess appointment since the Senate was not technically adjourned.

(10,053 posts)Little confused though. Grassley is the one who pulled that bait & switch with Manafort & Don Jr testifying to subpoena Glenn Simpson from Fusion (the one who is allegedly going to point fingers at Hillary about her "involvement" with the Steele Dossier - the "real" Russian scandal. I thought Grassley was one of the bad guys - why is he not on board with Sessions (then Mueller's) dismissal?

At any rate, Dems have a plan to keep Senate in session so there will be no recess.

(4,033 posts)generally well liked in the Senate, on both sides of the aisle. And they are a little irritated that one of their own is being persecuted for actually following the law. And, in the confirmation hearings (before he became AG) he said he would recuse himself. So, PINO didn't even bother to listen to or get a report on the hearings.
