Michelle Obama opens up about racism she faced as first lady

Michelle Obama opened up about racism she faced as first lady in a public appearance in Denver on Tuesday.

Obama spoke about being called an ape and people talking about her body, saying she wouldn't pretend the attacks didn't hurt, The Denver Post reported.

Women's Foundation of Colorado President and CEO Lauren Casteel said Obama broke a glass ceiling by becoming the first black first lady, and asked which of the falling glass shards from that glass ceiling cut the deepest.

"The shards that cut me the deepest were the ones that intended to cut," she said, noting comments comparing her to animals and criticizing her body. "Knowing that after eight years of working really hard for this country, there are still people who won't see me for what I am because of my skin color."

She said women endure those cuts in so many ways that "we don't even notice we're cut," adding that women "are living with small tiny cuts, and we are bleeding every single day. And we're still getting up."

I can't imagine a better role model for my two nieces, and all girls, than Michelle Obama. What wretched racists did to her is beyond sickening.

She is such an amazing inspiration for all decent people in this world

Though her public comments now are scarcer, I savor each and every one of them. And that especially includes those like this that confront head on the viscous disease of racism, with her honesty and grace which will always be her hallmark.

Michelle was probably one of the loveliest, most intelligent first ladies we have ever had. I despise these people who have been so cruel to her. She bore it all with grace and dignity, unlike the hillbillies in the WH now.

made me angry at Republicans because they didn't fire those two? people and STOP that shit in it's tracks.

one by one, different Republicans said, "oh this is wrong' so freaking weak.
All Republicans did was publicize the raciest junk hundreds more times along with their weaksauce comment.

I consider myself a fairly strong person, but I do not think I would have been able to manage the 8 years of grace and dignity she displayed without fail. She is amazing in every possible way.

I have nothing against Mrs. Trump, but if a black Democratic first lady had been an immigrant and posed nude many times, including poses depicting lesbian relations with another women, she would have been crucified as being unfit and a terrible example for young people.

I have zero problem with Melania's background, even if she might have been an illegal immigrant for a time. But the only things the Right likes about her is that she knows her place to them and keeps her mouth shut, and she's white.

In which Leslie Nope meets the then FLOTUS and, and Nope is so star-struck that she's reduced to a babbling simpleton.

I would react much the same if I met this amazing woman.

to be POTUS right no? Never!

Call us snowflakes? Trump is getting disrespect and resistance because that is the best he deserves.

Sorry, but I don't see any reconciliation in our future.

The RW racist scum have shown their true selves to be hateful monsters frothing at the mouth, worshiping the head of an administration that is frantically breaking and soiling all that they touch for the sole purpose of erasing every good thing the Obama administration did.

And why? Because those uppity people dared step out of their rightful (make that Rightful, no make that Reichful) places!

If there were a Hell, and a just God, any person actively supporting these RW monsters would be struck by lighting and sent there today.
