Sessions is one of the most effective agents in moving forward the Don's agenda. Yet many liberals are standing up against his potential firing because they fear that it will lead to the appointment of someone who will fire Mueller, without any recusal to stop him. This is a false belief for at least a couple of reasons.
1) firing Rosenstein will accomplish the same goal, and without taking someone off the board who has already brazenly attacked minority and states' rights multiple times.
2) it is clear that, to many conservatives, firing sessions would be a pussy-grab too far. Sessions was his oldest and most powerful ally, and the manner in which the Don repeatedly throws him under the bus is sending a clear message: no amount of loyalty is enough to keep you safe. He demands fealty, not loyalty, and any one of you could be next if your values happen to contradict his whims.
So I say, don't cry for Sessions and his career. Firing him will remove a major champion for injustice from a position of power...and it will put a real fear of God into any conservatives who still don't see the Don for what he really is.

(1,519 posts)I think it is inevitable that Trump fire Mueller. Firing Sessions is the step before that.
I don't know if the Republicans are capable of waking up and realizing that Trump is their disaster.
If they continue to follow him they are signing their own death warrants. If they pull up and start using the power of their branch of government they have some hope of survival.
I want Trump fully paralyzed and unable to get his judicial appointments done.

(5,730 posts)Meanwhile, the Repubs see, daily over and over, that loyalty is a one way street with DT, and the next to go could be anyone who has to decide to follow the law (recusal in Session's case) over Thug Trump's orders. It does have a chilling effect, contemplating the consequences of breaking the law or not disobeying Thug Trump. It let's them roast in what it is like being threatened by a Dictator.
Kudos to Murkowski for not buckling under.
BTW, I hate the KKK Elf.
If and when there is a shakeup, it could take Mueller a long time to get a confirmed position and to get back on track, if ever.

First Comey, then Spicer, now Sessions. Probably lots more in that list.
The more people that shitgibbon does wrong, the more likely that his minions will finally wake up.

(16,370 posts)I think it would be a real eye opener to the GOP senators, some of whom have already made it clear this would be a big mistake by Trump. Tension and a fracturing of relationships between Drumpf and Republicans in any fashion is great for Dems and the future.
Now, yes, he could fire Sessions to set up firing Mueller. But that would create even more problems for Drumpf and his relationship with GOP congress critters.
