Because He Said, "It Was The Right Thing To Do." - John McCain.
The Liberal Lion Senator Teddy Kennedy spoke to John McCain's Heart, from Heaven. We BELIEVE IT. PERIOD!

(5,730 posts)was like a strong, angry, thumbs down to DT.
Payback time.
DT has been a suck up for the last two weeks & now he can go back to being his heartless sociopathic self.
Lots of put downs for the Orange Pres this week.

The brain cancer & the awareness that his days, and votes, are numbered, must play some part.

(28,769 posts)but i read his facebook the other day. every single comment was negative. what i think is the people spoke to him and convinced him that had he voted yes, his good name would be tainted forever, and he's running out of time to salvage it.
as Kamala Harris said, this is a victory for the people.

but i do it anyway. for myself i guess...like calling my senators here in NC.
He does love that hero status.
Truthfully I don't care why he voted this down - I'm just delighted that he did.

(16,884 posts)...to pull him over for a moment.
I believe that humans and our time on earth is an epic battle of good vs. evil. And sometimes there are those that are completely lost and those that fight everyday for good and the people in between who get pulled in either direction by the forces and have to make a choice.
Yesterday we saw Good pull over McCain...for at least a day for us all to live another day.
It doesn't change my opinion of McCain one bit. It only convinces me all the more that the Good must continue the fight and not retreat and realize that the battle is not over.
If it was Ted Kennedy's soul whispering into McCain's ear through his dreams last night, so be it. Good prevailed for this one.

(128,441 posts)before this final vote - mainly while they were all debating, where you had the most extreme cold-hearted determined to "win" at all costs because of their abject blind hatred of the man who shepherded the ACA into existence. The people who would be negatively impacted were objectified, making it easy for them to be discarded.
Sadly, there will always be that "struggle" between good and evil but I do know that a large chunk of both the House and Senate are populated with folks elected from 2010 and later, on the platform that was strictly anti-ACA. I.e., "repeal Obamacare" was their meal ticket into elected office and that is their raison d'etre.

(1,907 posts)You have the r's who really believe in serving up shit burgers with shit on the side. You have those who just want the shit burgers. You have the ones who know their mega donors want shit burgers for all "lower" class people. You have those who know if they serve shit burgers they are so close on keeping their seats they have to be promised something to wash the shit burger down. You have the ones who are kind of against the shit burgers having too much shit, but will vote for it anyway because they will be primaried. You have the ones who know it's a shit burger, but don't want to vote against it because they won't be one of the cool kids who vote for shit burgers.
In the end on the house side they passed out enough root beer. Also they told the "center" r's that it wouldn't pass as is anyways so they barely got the votes.
In the senate not quite enough root beer and the "center" r's had to figure out who would be the no. Knowing the right media would go after them. It was just a case of who votes against shit burgers. Center r's just had to convince that one more no vote. mccain was the one. Thinking he won't be running next time and could take a hit.

(10,437 posts)the surprise is Sen Heller of Nevada that appears to want to find a new job after he loses in 2018 to a democrat. I am sure 2 or 3 more democratic wins are now possible based on conservative votes on repeal/replace of ACA with having no plan in place.
WinkyDink
(51,311 posts)Quite possibly. The ensuing condemnation of his "YES" surely did not escape his notice, for how he would be remembered.
Grandstanding? He WAS a Fly-Boy, after all!
Revenge on his inferior, a coward who now serves as C-I-C, who insulted McCain's service then and insults all the military now?
I'LL TAKE "REVENGE," ALEX, FOR ALL THE BORSCHT IN RUSSIA.

(27,430 posts)The rest of the Republicans would have paid dearly at the polls if they had voted no. McCain's not running again so all the rest of them can go home and say at least they tried.
