Trump knew that there are still a lot of George Wallace voters. That wasn't dumb.

Jerky Kosinski who (maybe) wrote (or cowrote) Being There constantly made the still vastly under appreciated point that much of what happens springs from sheer chance. But Trump knew calling Mexicans rapists and murderers is a winning strategy in much of America.
