I have to admit, even from the surreal, unprofessional, nightmare that is the Trump Administration

I never imagined that a White House spokesman would utter the phrase "suck my own cock" in a published interview. Even Dick Cheney telling Patrick Leahy to "go fuck yourself" on the Senate floor seems quaint by comparison.

The crassness and cruelty of these people would have sickened her.

The troll class has taken over. Our country is being run by people who have no substance, who made their mark with every crazed conspiracy theory that has been debunked by Snopes. Supported by every crass low-information denizen of the comment sections. Its the Age of the Troll. Lord help us.

The real internet activity started around the year 1999, if memory serves. Your description is accurate.

you certainly make a great comparison, and I do think that's where the low language comes from. This is the culmination of it.

but it is the first one installed very much by modern social media and it's lurkers and lowest common denominators, people with no manners because they haven't had to use them on line and now it is spilling into real life.

And I'll admit that I am prone to salty language in many contexts, but I don't address a judge or a jury like I am watching a ballgame in a bar. I don't talk to my Little League teams the way I talk to my old friends in a casual conversation. I don't talk to my kids, or my 90 year old mother, the way I talked to my college roommates. It's just bizarre that they have no sense of decorum or respect for the office.

You hit it on the head exactly. Language has to be pitched for the ears that will hear it, and this crew is not following that convention. When anybody is in a public setting--like talking to a reporter or speaking in public--the choice of language has to conform to a common standard (suitable for Grandma and the kids, for example.) How you talk in a locker room or at a strip club is probably going to be a lot different because your audience is more tightly defined.

I hadn't really thought about this in the context of the rotten mango, but his language has always been geared to a lower status "rougher" speaker--even down to his word choices. He grates on a lot of people because he's not conforming to speech and language norms. I never put that together before now. Wow.

"Is our children learning?".

You bet your ass. They have learned that it's ok to watch a man drown in Florida, that it's ok to shoot a driver that is reaching for his license and insurance card, and that it's ok for the president to lie and act like a fool.

All in the span of 180 days.
