McCain Has Never Forgotten

July 28, 2017 at 8:04 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

James Hohmann: “There is nothing Trump can do any more that will get to McCain. Battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, the maverick was willing to vote ‘no’ on the ‘skinny repeal’ amendment so that other GOP colleagues who were also opposed to the measure could vote ‘yes’ to save face with the conservative base. To this day, Trump has never apologized for saying that the former fighter pilot was not a war hero because he got captured in Vietnam. It gets less attention, but the president also besmirched the Arizona senator’s character by repeatedly accusing him of not taking care of other veterans. McCain has never forgotten.”

3. Interesting take on McCain's no vote

He took the "no" upon himself so that the others who wanted to but were afraid could say yes and save face. What does that say about the cowards who let McCain do that?

They know McCain won't be running for reelection, and they will be.

So they think their right wing tRump voting record will help them.

but have any republicans ever taken a stand to defend an honorable American veteran and Senatorial colleague? No.

the republicans continue to submissively kiss the ass of an ignoble Casino Hustler with a squirmy TeasonWeasel record of disgrace.

12. McCain's record is NOT 100% honoroble, but Trump has earned his utter contempt now

He did endorse tRump (Republican), but took it back. Wiser people did not endorse tRump in the first place.

McCain DOES NOT LIKE Donald Trump. That has been clear for some time.

8. I agree, there were others willing to vote no..but they didn't have to.

If the word was out..that McCain would take the sacrificial lamb, then the others could escape the wrath of the conservatives as well as the Turtle....

..Also, the others voting NO, perhaps went along for one reason, to let McCain shine in the light as a leader and person who saved health insurance for millions. If there were 7 votes N0, the light on the McCain vote would not have been so strong. Why not a strong light on someone who served the country..???

So, the other N0s had two reasons to vote Yes, as long as that vote would go down anyway. It makes a lot of sense as you say...and yes, McCain does not like Trump...and ....Trump's administration could not knock McCain for obvious reasons. The Trumpers sure as hell knocked Murkowski and tried to tie her up. That failed, so Trump and McConnell lost big. Which is what McCain and the rest of us wanted. (If you note what McCain said, he did not like the idea of not holding public hearings, and not sending "skinny" to committee ...and the way McConnell handled it..it was a private written by McConnell..and that McCain hated)..

he was up to something ferocious returning to Washington so soon, and before radiation/chemo begins.

Whatever one thinks of McCain, to turn the tables on the honorable war record of a decorated veteran
and POW and from a prominent multi-generation military family is just unspeakably crude. Only the
Republican base and Tea Partiers accepted it - or ignored it.

along side countless others. Then think of the privileged tRump riding high off his father's coattails, never serving and clueless as to the sacrifice our veterans have made, it would burn anyone's soul to their dying day.

Good for McCain on this round.
