(11,686 posts)It's going to piss off Vlad, in fact. But he had no choice because both houses of Congress passed it by such a wide margin. If he had vetoed it, they would have overridden his veto.
Congress feels very strongly about this. It includes sanctions against North Korea and Iran as well, but the key component in the bill is that Congress has to approve of any easing of sanctions against Russia that he might make.
The headline that just flashed here from WaPost said that he intends to sign it.

(61,690 posts)easing sanctions, they must not have trusted trump on anything to do with russia. If that's the case, then they shouldn't be obstructing the investigation or trying to discredit the FBI. In some ways, their actions make no sense.

(10,269 posts)Trying to distance themselves from Trump Administration? Check.
Trying to distance themselves from Trump Administration money-laundering cash funnelled into house and Senate campaign warchests?
ALSO check.
Putting trump in his political place isnt quite the same ballgame as letting a quarter off the elected Congress get indicted on RICO statute violations heh

(12,608 posts)1. if he refused to sign the bill, it would look like he is for Putin and against the national security of his country. So he will use this as a talking point and also his aides. " If I was colluding with Russia why would I agree to sanction them?" It is all a ploy to cover his tracks. I'm sure he was speaking to Putin before he made his decision.

Seems Putin's response is pretty light handed on this > "reducing staff at the embassy" and they have until September to do it. Hmmmm.

(81,127 posts)Not a good time to get on your puppetmaster's bad side, Donald, particularly when you're burning through whatever "political capital" you may have had.
I suspect Putin feels he's owed, BIGLY. After all, his vote was all that counted last fall. And he wasn't even a citizen. (Hey Kris Kobach, wanna investigate THAT "voter fraud"?)
