She had to travel a lot further than McCain. She could have stayed home and focused on her own health but showed up to vote to block the Rethugs bill. Had she not, there would have been a tie broken by Pence. McCain had nothing to lose. Sadly he'll probably not live to his next election. He may have voted NO just to stick it to Trump, or he may actually have grown a conscience. Whatever his reason, I'm glad he did.
But to my way of thinking the real "Heros" are Mazie Hirono, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.

If you're on twitter, drop Sen Hirono some good wishes.

(58,618 posts)Hirono, Collins, Murkowski. It's really thanks to them.
Schumer gets a little credit for holding the Dem caucus together, but Collins and Murkowski resisted far more pressure than anyone to vote.

But I am happy for Hirono.

Why McCain gets the media attention is because it was unexpected and he did it on purpose to kill it for now through procedural methods. That's why he voted to advance bill forward and then voted against it. Maybe he'll get some of the bullying threats to destroy Arizona like Alaska and Maine got.
