No wonder Trump used this police department as a backdrop.

Their former chief is in jail for brutality and corruption, and the rot from the chief on down hasn't disappeared with the chief going to jail.
Corruption and brutality in a police force can take years or even decades to eliminate, just look at Milwaukee's own Harold Breier.

Suffolk County Cops' Ex-Chief In Prison For Police Brutality

First, what were Suffolk County uniformed cops doing, serving as a backdrop to what looks suspiciously like a campaign rally?
It's against the law for police officers to appear at political campaign events in uniform to endorse candidates, and for good reason. That's been the law in New York for more than 40 years, and for good reason: having uniformed officers endorse a politician at a campaign event can either give the candidate an aura of support from the government itself or make people afraid to oppose the police choice, which is inappropriate in elective politics.

[...] In 2014 the state Board of Elections reaffirmed the law, ruling: "The use of the uniform as a prop adds the weight of the police office and accomplishes the very evil which . . . [the election law] would avoid."
Yeah, Trump claims his Friday speech was to discuss gang violence -- but used the occasion to encourage criminal behavior in police.
“When you see these towns and when you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you just see them thrown in, rough, I said, please don’t be too nice,” he said.

“Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head, you know, the way you put their hand over, like, don’t hit their head and they’ve just killed somebody — don’t hit their head. I said, you can take the hand away, okay?”
The cops cheered. I don't think all of them did, which gives me hope.

Some of them might have been thinking of their former chief, James Burke -- who sounds a lot like Trump.
He's in prison now, sentenced to 46 months in prison for brutality.

Imagine if Obama had ever said anything so repulsive to such a mob.

it is being cleaned up and has issued a statement saying it absolutely does not agree with manhandling prisoners. Trump had no business saying that, they say.

And, Suffolk is not the carpet of blood he claimed it to be. In fact, we have had fewer murders here than Mar-A-Lago's county.

Also, he's a bit late. Suffolk County has declared war on MS-13 and gave them a big hit without Federal help, thank you very much Mr. Trump.

And how does Trump feel about Bloods, Crips, and the 18th St. gang? They're out here, too.

Except first off, who was stupid enough to invite Trump there to speak, especially after the BSA fiasco?

Second, what about local media, newspapers, radio, etc?
What do they say?

Lee Zeldin (my asshole rep) and/or Peter King, the other Long Island Republican.

Local media is playing it down-- it was embarrassing all around. They were, of course, quick to mention the Suffolk PD's disavowal of manhandling prisoners. The idiot in the White House has talk about thugs right after the county PD managed to calm down a big scandal. And the same idiot goes on national TV claiming Suffolk is more dangerous than some third world hellhole. (Or Chicago) Not good.

Local news works with local cops, and neither wants to piss the other off any more than necessary. Neither of them have much use for Trump, but he holds some purse strings and can cause trouble.
