I don't think Trump will give up on the idea of firing Mueller. There's something really scary at the end of that investigation, obviously.
I think he'll come up with a way to get rid of Sessions, and get an acting AG in, who will fire Mueller for Trump. Maybe Trump can transfer Sessions to NHS Director job that Kelly is vacating? (I heard that possibility on MSNBC.)
What will the Senate do about it? (Forget the House...apparently Paul Ryan and his ilk care only about money.) What CAN they do about it? Not hold any more confirmation hearings for a while? Okay...well, that's better than keeping Mueller, I'm sure Trump thinks. File a "we disagree with what Trump did" formal paper for history? Sticks & stones.
Either the Senate must do something before they leave for recess, or Trump will make his move in their absence. Graham has stated they're drafting a bill that requires any firing of a Special Counsel who is investigating the President or his team to be confirmed by Judicial Review (either the Courts, or the Senate Judiciary Committee...not sure which). But such a bill hasn't been passed.
If they don't pass that bill before their recess, I think Trump will make his move and fire Mueller. He's desperate and as we've seen, he won't stand for not getting his way. That's what I think, anyway.

Of course he will fire Mueller...Drumpf is also drunk with power, he will keep pushing those norms of what every one tells him not to do, and some day that will include the nuclear codes too...

(39 posts)to think that if trump does fire Mueller that Congress would step up to the plate to appoint Mueller as Special Prosecutor. Thank you Senator Franken!

Ken Starr was not a Special Counsel; he was an Independent Counsel.
