The worst case scenario for the Russia investigation

Congress goes on recess and leaves town.

Trump makes a dual announcement that he is appointing Jeff Sessions as the new Director of Homeland Security and that he is bringing in Chris Christie to run the Justice Department. Because he knows that Chris Chistie is the one person that will do whatever he asks.

In another dual announcement, Chris Christie announces that he is removing Bob Mueller from the investigation and the new FBI Director, Christopher Wray, announces that he is ordering all FBI personnel to halt all immediate investigations regarding Russia. This is the worst case scenario, in my opinion.

Is it possible? What would the Congress do if that were to happen?

1. Congress isn't going to do anything about Trump as long as the Republicans are in power.

Half the country are brainwashed into believing that Trump and the Republicans are good and right so they won't believe anything to the contrary.

The only hope is for the rest of us to elect enough Democrats to take back the House. Then Democrats control committees and can order hearings and appoint special investigations and actually do something about this.

Until then, it doesn't really matter how Trump reshuffles the deck.

Getting out the vote in 2018 and taking back the House is our last hope.

even Trump knows it would not work. Congress would appoint an independent counsel answering only to them (like ken starr was) , refuse to confirm another nominee and keep the senate in session to stop a recess appointment. If there is one thing senators believe in, its their own power. They would not tolerate being bypassed. Graham, mccain, even grassley said as much. I think this would trigger serious discussions to start impeachment.

3. That assumes the majority would appoint an independent counsel.

I'm not so sure about that.

However, this would be the worst case scenario and Trump is in a desperate mode. He will try anything to save his butt.

I do not see Republicans starting impeachment hearings while they are in power. Otherwise, they would have already started.

Granted this is a worst-case scenario and not likely to happen but it is not out of the realm of possibilities, in my opinion.

because they thought they could use him to carry out their agenda and he would sign anything. Instead he has wrecked the whole thing and is turning on them.
Since Trump was never a longtime player they have no deep loyalty towards him. As McCain put it in his speech on the senate floor, they are not subordinate to the president, they are his equal. Many of these senators have huge ego and wield tremendous power. They wont play along much longer.

The minute they think that Trump has lost enough of his base they will get rid of him and end up with Pence. They are not doing it now because they want to be sure they dont alienate the base. once they have figured out how to deal with it, Trump is gone in a new york minute.

Although I don't share it, I do think you're correct with this observation:

"The minute they think that Trump has lost enough of his base they will get rid of him and end up with Pence."

I just don't think the 35% of America that's ingested too much lead to allow proper brain function will ever lose faith in their Shit Gibbon. I also feel that if by some miracle of modern science they regain their reasoning skills (Although it's yet to be proven they ever had that skill before), their hatred for "libtards", brown people and women will over ride what ever concern they have about Shit Gibbon's ineptitude.

Kudos to you for having that small bit of optimism. I'm jealous!

Repubs will be frozen in inaction so long as the base sticks with Trump. Which means, forever, as long as they are in power.

He'll clutch his pearls, swoon onto his fainting couch, utter a few "I do declare"s and continue to aid and abet OJ (Orange Julius) in the rape and destruction of our democracy like any true GOPee-er Patriot.

thats what schumer said they are prepared to do. They likely wont have to because the gop also does not want to recess. they have not in years, they want to be in control of appointments, not let trump do that.

We know he'll do whatever it takes to protect his brand. And that could mean his doing all kinds of things.

He'll try, anyway. He has a knack for screwing himself more with each tweet, speech, and firing.

I still think that until Trump becomes a liability to the GOP they will continue to ignore, enable, and support him.

Right now, they don't seem to think he's too much of a liability.

Even with everything happening, they still think they can avoid the Trump stink.

We're all rubberneckers to the ugliest train wreck seen in D.C. in recent memory.

My concern is for all the people, myself included, that are being hurt and will be hurt because of it.

going on a firing spree inside the WH and gathering around him more people like Scaramucci. Getting rid of Sessions, others within his cabinet.

Whatever you can think of that would be the wrong thing to do.

Trump is circling the wagons.
