"He. Shames. Us." Stolen from FB

And this is precisely why most people who do not guzzle soda from large plastic bottles and wear their cleanest T shirts to weddings and are educationally challenged, think the President is a dithering fuckwit.

First, let us get it out of the way: this article is from the (failing) New York Times, is clearly fake news, and President Trump never appeared in front of the Suffolk County PD and said these things. Now, no doubt, those who envy the prehensile everywhere can go back to scratching in the dirt with sticks, looking for ants.

For the rest of you:

Was it a good idea for the President to speak to the Suffolk County PD? Sure, why not.

Is it good that the President, who if he is authentically anything, is a New Yorker, expresses an interest in ending
gang violence in New York? Yes, sure, great.

Is it good that the President wants to hire more people to do this? OK, works for me--although, sadly, I do not believe him when he says he wants to hire more ICE agents to combat MS-13, but, for a moment, let's go with it.

Then President Fuckwit has to ruin it by forgetting that he is the President of the United States and speaking to law enforcement, and oh so amusingly suggest that law enforcement officers not be so nice with the criminals they arrest. ("Criminals" prior to conviction, in America, a land of laws, are known as "suspects," not "criminals." But I digress.) This of course is oh so amusing to the above mentioned Coke guzzling, T shirt wearing crowed, as long as it is criminals/suspects in New York, but if these same cops took their kids, their meth making, shop lifting, breaking and entering rust belt kids and smacked them around, we would hear endless grunts about lack of jobs and drug addiction among the young and what about Hillary's emails.

The President is supposed to lead us, not embarrass.

And this is the third time, in less than a week, that a group has had to step back and distance themselves from the President of the United States.

First was the Boy Scouts of America, then the Joint Chief of Staff, and now Suffolk County PD.

He. Shames. Us.

1. No professional, sane cop wants to see cops abusing suspects.

Because that professional cop knows that endangers him or her. America works because the vast majority of people, 90% or more obey the rule of law, if that changes not enough cops can be hired to police society and the lives of each cop that tries most likely ends quickly.

5. I agree. Sadly, very sadly, I've been losing my trust in the law enforcement

institution in this nation. Now, so you know, I'm white and was raised during the 60s and 70s in suburbia, which grew leaps and bounds in part because hundreds of thousands of white parents, just like mine, fled the cities to get away from 'bussing.' Sad, but true. So that's my perspective.

When I was a kid, I can remember my dad telling me that if I got lost or was having a problem I should find a police officer because that officer would help me.

This will sound polly-anna, I know, but I've always loved those old Perry Mason shows, because I was raised to believe with all my heart that justice would be done, and that if you are in the right, eventually you would be vindicated. I was also raised to believe that Americans were always the good guys. Why? Because my parents were Greatest Generation people. Mom was a 'Rosie the Riveter,' and Dad fought in the Pacific. They genuinely believed in the goodness of this country.

These beliefs eroded, though. Vietnam. Watergate. Reagan. Iran-Contra. The death of the Fairness Doctrine. The rise of fear-based hate-talk radio. The rise of the right wing noise machine. And then lately all the cops killing unarmed people they have no business even having their guns drawn for. And Trump, for God's sake! That asshole.

So you know, I AM happy to see your post, and I know that you're telling the truth. I recently got stopped by a cop in an affluent suburb in my state, and he was nice and gave me a break. But that was in an affluent suburb. What if I'm driving in a less affluent area and get pulled over? What if the DEA or some other federal agency does a 'no knock' raid on my house by mistake? Because that happened here in my state, in my very city. In fact, it has happened all over the place. What if the cops raid a target in my neighborhood and use military grade weapons and my property is damaged, or my family hurt? Are we simply collateral damage? What about high speed chases? We see movie footage of high speed chases where the drivers who are victims of the pursued and pursuer wreck their cars. But while the movie moves on, the person in that wrecked car with possible injuries must begin the process of replacing or repairing the car and getting medical help if necessary, including whatever is necessary for a possibly lengthy recovery. I'd sure like to NOT be that person.

Scary times, my friend. Scary times. The more of us who can remain sane, the better. And the current dimwit in the White House and his entire radical libertarian party want to get rid of what we have and replace it with unrestrained capitalism. That just sucks. I mean, think Robocop, like privatizing the Detroit police. We can't do that - but that is what freaks like the Koch brothers want, because hey, they can afford bunkers with armed guards. Sometimes I think the plan these fucks have for us is to institute a Purge, like in the movie, where once a year it is open season on the poor or the liberal.

9. You laid out many very good points.

My experience with cops has been good and bad. Typically I found that most of the older cops near retirement were the better ones. Some of the younger ones were not.

I had an experience with a cop once where he gave me a ticket in a speed trap. After that I noticed he often sat at that speed trap and frankly, that plus the ticket made me a little pissed at him. But a while later, I saw that same cop do things that led me to admire the guy. One case was at a very dangerous intersection where the light had failed, I guess he drove by, saw the situation and got out of his cruiser and directed traffic in the rain, I passed through and went about my business but came back through about four hours later and he was still there directing traffic while a repair crew was fixing the light. A second time I was out cycling a ways from home but still in my city and saw that same cop, his cruiser parked across the road with it's lights flashing, he routed me pass and as I rode by on my bike I noticed that a water main had broken and a large section of the road had caved in - if that cop had rode by that, a car could have driven into that massive hole because it was just after a large hill had crested. Other cops have had me dead to rights for expired inspection stickers and one other case of speeding and let me go with a simple warning.

The cops that I think should not be policing are the clearly macho types that just ride around or sit around in their cruiser and if you do meet them walking on the street and say hello, they act like you don't exist. Others that I resent are ones that yell at people in obviously stressful situations for everyone, like when a major street in a city gets blocked off and traffic snarls up.

I am an optimistic person by nature. I really think that there are a lot of fiscally conservative republicans but who don't have harsh social views wondering whether they should stay in the Republican Party, some of those people have become independents. They can't fully trust us, but increasingly I think they are seeing that we care the most for the country, even when we criticize leaders and policy. I recently talked to a guy who I know voted for Trump because he sees himself as a patriot (proud Marine war vet), but he is ashamed of Trump and seems to want Trump gone. I don't know whether that guy will ever vote for a Democrat, but he does seem more willing to listen to the Democrat's argument for why he should.

2. Sadly, there will be some who eat up that line of thinking. If you get arrested, you must be guilty
Sun Jul 30, 2017, 01:06 PM

Of SOMETHING. Otherwise, why were you arrested? Of course that is exactly backward to what our justice system is supposed to be about. Innocent until PROVEN guilty is more than just a nice slogan. In tRump world, criminals need to be introduced to the baton smacked up side of their heads ASAP. Show them who is boss. Be judge and jury. Executioner if necessary.

Those of us with more than two brain cells to rub together realize how dangerous this is. And we know tRump never intends for that same fate to befall him or his family. They are above all that.
And while they are as slimey and sleezey as they come, he thinks they are way too smart to get caught for their misdeeds.

But he does know how to rally his base. He speaks their language. Meanwhile, the rest of us recoil in horror. And police departments everywhere across the USA start mentally writing the next inservice speech they will need to present. Don't listen to him because if you follow his lead, it will be YOU who is in court trying to defend yourself of police brutality charges......not tRump.

He is a menace and every time he opens his anus shaped mouth, he confirms that. He needs to be removed. ASAP. He has done quite enough and we will be paying for and straightening out the mess for a very long time.

USA can afford to lock them up & keep them from more mayhem, central america is reaping the costs of REAGAN sending gangs back home. you'd think for profit prisons would love them.

6. How about we act like it isn't just "poor rednecks" that support Trump?

How about we act like there are plenty of poor people that are or lean Dem? How about we acknowledge that there are plenty of educated middle class and above people that support Trump? It's not as easy as just being classist and saying it's "poor rednecks."

And I have a master's and teach and my attire of choice when not teaching is a t-shirt and cargo shorts. And I'm pretty much a socialist.
