GOP to begin vigorous sales-job on tax reform

Republicans will be vigorously selling tax reform over the August recess, following the release of shared tax-reform principles and the Senate's failure to pass even a scaled-down ObamaCare repeal bill.

Now that GOP leaders and the White House have announced a consensus on goals for tax reform, they are hoping to get voters excited about forthcoming legislation. And they’ll have business groups and conservative advocacy organizations helping them in the efforts.

The campaigning on tax reform was going to be in full-force even if the Senate had a successful healthcare vote. But the failure to repeal ObamaCare makes passing tax-reform legislation even more crucial, as Republicans want a legislative success to tout for the midterm elections.

The healthcare defeat “put pressure on getting a victory” on taxes, said Marc Gerson, chair of Miller & Chevalier and a former tax counsel to the House Ways and Means Committee.

Some GOP lawmakers have continued to express an interest in working on healthcare, but congressional GOP leaders have signaled that they are ready to shift to other priorities.

After watching them on healthcare reform I'd say their success is iffy.

because they will run up the deficit, but that can be repaired by increasing taxes later. It's not a massive hit like taking away health care is. Dems need to argue that middle class folks should also get a tax cut, and this is a good chance to finally get rid of the marriage tax.

12. Not exactly. Any tax cuts achieved through reconciliation must be revenue neutral

or else they will automatically expire after 10 years (which is what happened to BEN's tax cuts). The Republicans want to make their tax cuts permanent, so they had to do healthcare first, with hundreds of billions in spending cuts, to give them enough of a buffer to make their reconciliation achieved tax cuts permanent.

Pundit Class is,1.1 trillion in wealth transfer to the richest 400 families. Which means major hits to the lower quintiles of the Tax brackets due to the fact, the Rethugs were counting on the ACA money which lands more on this Tax Group.

Just another Bush/Cheney/Reagan Wealth transfer.

Since they couldn't save money cutting Medicaid, they have to find another way to make the tax cuts "budget neutral" or they will expire in 10 years.
