What are downsides to getting Tor browser?

I've never visited Daily Stormer. Didn't know it existed. But I do visit Breitbart.com occasionally and have replied once or twice on Facebook. I think it's good to know what's going on.

What are the downsides to installing the Tor browser and going to the link they tweeted out after being banned from GoDaddy and Google?

I don't see any value in looking at that website. The_Casual_Observer Aug 2017 #2

A lot of sites have malware and what not. It's sort of like walking into a dark alley late at night.

it slows your computer down a lot. You will also have the nagging suspicion that some pedophile is hiding behind your IP address.

I used it briefly during the Iranian uprising several years ago when the call went out for more people to join the network in order to hide the students and other demonstrators from the secret police. I usually just left it running in the background and I haven't bothered with it since they went to Haystack, now defunct.

With the distinct chill from the (in)Justice Department fishing for 1.3 million IP addresses of people who visited a resistance site, we're all going to have to join VPNs unless all we want to do online is shop.

given the state of today's internet you should already be using one.

It is it's own Firefox browser and only uses it's own approved version. Get the newest version, use it on a laptop ot desktop computer... not the cell phone version, and it runs pretty stealthily. It's only a little slower since it bounces through anonymous points all over the world but not that much. Don't change the security settings to override https or java script settings. You will be as anonymous as the average person can be. There are some web things that won't play or show up but that's why you use Tor... to stay safe and anonymous. Access to those functions undermine the anonymity.
I use it all the time. Keep it updated. There's a lot of info on how to use it on the Tor site.
Again, the cell phone versions are not as stealthy. They are better but there is only so much protection available on any cell phone.
