including all forms of racism, including both structural and subjective bigotry.
There's a not-insubstantial segment of the population that (1) genuinely abhors racism but (2) does not agree that confederate statues/monuments are per se evil.
When Tr*mp wants to talk about statues, he's trying to show that group of people that they agree with him, when in fact they do not share his white nationalism.

As you stated, I think most of us can multitask--we can follow multiple events, stories, topics without losing sight of what is pertinent and important.
