Al Gore's stupendous wealth complicates climate message

Al Gore’s Stupendous Wealth Complicates His Climate Message. That Can Change.
Right-wing critics say the former vice president’s wealth is hypocritical. By making his fortune a talking point, he could beef up his climate gospel.
By Alexander C. Kaufman

Al Gore has long been a knight of the movement to combat climate change. But when he returned to the national spotlight last month with his latest documentary, “An Inconvenient Sequel,” he did so in gilded armor.

The former vice president ― who boasted a relatively modest net worth of $1.7 million, held mostly in family farm assets, when he ran for president in 2000 ― has become a media mogul and financial titan over the past decade, with a personal fortune valued at upward of $200 million. His big comeback comes months after a populist wave swept President Donald Trump to a surprise election victory, setting the stage for the most aggressive rollback of environmental and climate policies in history.

The right has always used his wealth as a reason to disbelieve. They would find something else surely, but his wealth has always been number one.

So Al Gore writes a book or makes a movie and millions of people want to buy the book or see the movie. And he makes money off it.

They were the same way about the Clintons and Obamas writing books and making speeches for money. Why do they have such a problem with that?

Rich People - they use up all the carbon and don't want you to have any
Poor People - if they are so smart, why aren't they rich?
Scientists - they are using it to get money
Nobel Prize Laureates - They should stick to their fields of expertise
Non-Scientists - they aren't scientists
Democratic Politicians - they are Democrats, nuff said
Prestigious National And International Scientific Organizations - They are UN shills
The UN - Full of anti-American left wing zealots
190 nations that signed the Paris Accords - Just a bunch of nations that wish they could be as great as America
The Pope - Are you going to trust a liberal priest?
Governors of coastal states - They aren't real Americans, they are coastal elites
Mayors of coastal cities - They aren't real Americans, they are urban elites
Leaders of island nations about to sink beneath the waves - Can't find those little islands on a map anyway

He is one of the highest profile people in politics and in environmental issues.

With those credentials he could be a billionaire---he probably has people throwing opportunities to make money at him and has had to hire a staff to wade through the proposals.

...working for the betterment of humanity and the Democratic Party, who has somehow had the combination of hard work and good luck to amass some wealth -- over and over here since 2004 I have read the opinions of presumed Democrats that those people are raging hypocrites for the sole reason of their wealth.

This is our real problem: our own attitudes. To hell with the "Right-wing critics." They're not ever going to be with us anyway.
