Anyway, given the results of a mere 1,000 Russian-paid trolls on our 2016 election, I'm thinking we can't afford to discount the 'jackpine radical' fringe group. Now, I suppose I'm a Social Democrat, or a Democratic Socialist, whatever, but I'm not a purist. I'm not voting for some fringe party candidate because in our system that merely throws away my vote. I don't know the answer to this group, and those who come on here trolling, but it seems like we have lots of little 'faux outrage generator' posts on here. Ones that are more divisive than anything else. This concerns me.

To piggyback on what you said above, the attorney who filed this claim was clearly incompetent to argue anything before the Supreme Court, because his arguments were all thrown out on technicalities.

What bothers me most, though, is why, when we have a cancerous pustule in the White House and this cancer has metastasized to the US Congress, did these plaintiffs even bother with this lawsuit. Yeah, I have a real low opinion of Wasserman-Schultz, and I believe the claims in the suit had merit, but I myself would never have filed it in the first place. Why?

Because now is the time to band together and start putting together election-winning strategies, not refighting a primary.

From what I understand, Russia paid about 1,000 trolls to search out people on social media who live in key swing-precincts, friend them on social media, and engage in a series of posts designed to shape opinion in those areas. This is not technically illegal in the US, and does not constitute treason simply because our laws have not caught up with social media.

What was treason is when Republicans colluded with them, received information from them, and used them to rig an election. That is treason. One of the things I can't for the life of me understand, is why the leaders in our party are downplaying this, saying things like, "It doesn't sell because Americans don't care about it."

I guess Germans in the mainstream political parties of the Weimar Republic in the 1930s said the same types of things about Hitler and his goals. Oh, that will never happen. People don't care about it.

Tragically, by the time the Russians defeated the last German resistance in the ruins of Berlin and all of Europe and most of Asia was a smoking ruin, over 60 million people had died. The reason I'm so deeply concerned about Trump is because this could happen again here. Another Holocaust. It scares the shit out of me.

This is why I want to do everything in my power as a human being to fight these fascists and keep us from falling down into this abyss.

3. Well, having just read the ruling, it seems there is little cause for smugness on

the part of Wasserman-Schultz or the HRC campaign. It was thrown out on several technicalities that do not speak to the validity or veracity of the allegations.

Doesn't matter anyway, because 2016 is water under the bridge.

The salient points we need to be looking at are:
1. Why, when HRC won by nearly 3 million votes, is Trump in the WH?
2. Why do we still have the electoral college in the face of this? (note: http://www.nationalpopularvote.com/ is the solution here)
3. Why have we not put a national 'fight tooth-and-nail' strategy in place for the voter suppression tactics being used across the nation by Republican controlled legislatures? Obama and Holder are leading this charge, but see the thinkprogress post below for details.
4. How can we ensure the results of the 2020 Census preclude gerrymandering? Well, according to the article here: https://thinkprogress.org/democrats-may-already-be-blowing-the-2020-redistricting-fight-d7edf43703ac/, there is a way, but if they don't do it right, Republicans will still be in control.

As a Bernie supporter, I have my own feelings about what happened in 2016, but now we have to concentrate on winning subsequent elections. This isn't helpful.

In addition to the anti-suppression measures in 3. and 4. above, I also strongly suggest when speaking to groups of Democrats in my own state, that we learn to MUCH more effectively talk about kitchen table issues. Independent voters, who outnumber both Dem and Republican rolls, don't care as much about the standard Dem talking points as all that.

What DO they care about? Kitchen table issues.

1. I'm scared I'm going to lose my job. Which candidate/party can best a) keep that from happening, or b) help me if it does happen.
2. It sucks that my kids have to take out so many loans for college. Why isn't college more affordable, and how would we pay for that?
3. I destroyed my car's alignment today when I hit a pothole. Why in the hell doesn't my state have enough money to fix the roads?
4. I'm in my mid-fifties. What happens if Social Security is privatized?
5. What happens if the government voucherizes Medicare?

During the last primary, we fought each other about the relative merits of social versus economic justice, but economic issues are kitchen table issues.

Do we want to lose elections, or start winning them. We need a two part strategy (get rid of gerrymandering and speak to kitchen table issues) in order to win. That's all I'm saying.

So, this document is OK, but again, I don't think any Democrat ought to be either smug or outraged until we begin to win. Right now we need to focus with single minded intensity on that, and honestly, I'm getting pretty worried because we keep choosing ineffective national and state strategies.

We are THIS close to becoming a fascist dictatorship and having to endure civil war and we need to change tack pretty fucking fast. I'd say that TRUMPS everything, if you'll pardon the pun.

or I've got some valid points to contribute. There are quite a few 'big dogs' on this site in terms of Dem functionaries and media people, not to mention a few elected officials here and there. The bit about speaking to kitchen table issues is quite valid.

Consider the ill-advised 2014 Senate campaign where Mark Udall (D) lost to the extreme Cory Gardner (Radical Libertarian Koch-funded R) for the US Senate in a BLUE state! For gods' sake! I panned our state Dem establishment for allowing Udall to run such a lame campaign. His campaign was so lackluster that it was like pushing your fingers through cornmeal mush - there was no telling what the guy actually stood for.

Which is precisely why he lost.

This caused to become MUCH more active in the party.

So, keyboard warrior or not, I'm going to be at party functions, I'm going to be speaking to groups of young Dems aspiring to local and state office, and yes, I will also be posting on several sites like this in an attempt to help shape the national strategy.
