Thought it might be interesting--with the focus on well to do Texans stepping up to help with the devastation from Harvey--to see just how many billionaires there are in Texas.
Texas is home to 50 billionaires, led by Walmart heiress Alice Walton, 67, of Fort Worth with a net worth of $33.8 billion. Four billionaires are from San Antonio, according to Forbes magazines 2017 list of the worlds billionaires released on its website Monday.
Richard Kinder kept the top spot among Houstons richest, moving up to No. 194 from No. 240 last year. Kinder, who made his fortune in pipelines, gained 33 percent in his net wealth to $7.1 billion in 2017.
Several members of the Bass family also made the list, led by Robert Bass, coming in at No. 441 with a net worth of $4 billion.
Texas team owners also made the ranks, with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones at No. 303, with a net worth of $5.2 billion; Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban at No. 564, with $3.4 billion; and Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander at No. 1,098, with $1.9 billion.
Tilman Fertitta, of the Landrys restaurant empire, saw his wealth slip to $2.9 billion from $3 billion, moving him down in the ranking to No. 693 from No. 569.

(7,682 posts)1. So Texas has been good to them. Surely they could each afford to give
a $100million donation to help their neighbors? A small pot of $5billion to start the recovery? (I bet most are staunch Christians ; What-oh-what would Jesus do?)

Most GOP billionaires will do nothing, but a few will.
Most DNC billionaires will do a great deal and make sure nobody knows it was them.
Go ahead, GOP billionaires, prove me WRONG...I know your neighbors would love for me to be wrong as in YOU helping them.

(21,946 posts)6. They are all running scared. The only way they'd ever be able to cash out is electronically.
That amount of actual cash could never be printed.
Computers world wide lose the date permanently, they are almost totally broke.
A large solar flare could be the end of their billionaire status.
