LPGA golfer Stacy Lewis donates $195k tournament prize to Houston relief

Here she is with her hard-earned check. Where is Trump's check? As Stacy Lewis knows, this is a disaster of epic proportions, and money is needed NOW. Pay up, Donald.

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/09/04/golf/stacy-lewis-cambia-portland-classic-golf-hurricane-harvey-houston-texas/index.html

"She won her first LPGA tournament since 2014, but Stacy Lewis wasn't in a hurry to pocket the $195,000 prize money.

Instead, the American golfer, who lives in Texas with her husband, will donate her Cambia Portland Classic winnings to the Houston Relief Fund set up in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

One of the 32-year-old golfer's sponsors has agreed to match her donation, while another has donated an undisclosed amount.

The hurricane has claimed 53 lives and forced tens of thousands out of their homes and into aid shelters. Houston authorities have said it will "take years" for the city to recover as it comes to terms with the extent of the devastation.".. .(more)

I hate golf and don't know who she is (or didn't know). I would not recognize her in another photo or in person.

But Stacy Lewis, I love you!

In reality, I respect and admire you more than I can express. But I do LOVE your action. Still won't watch golf or probably remember your name in a week.

But the beauty of what you did is the beauty of the real American People.

Here we go, the so-called $10B "president" is going to, some day, contribute $1M. Go figure.

She's been frustrated for several years by high finishes but no wins since 2014. It's actually been quite bizarre but since LPGA is not high profile not many people have been aware of it. The likelihood of so many second through fifth place finishes over a long stretch but without winning should be next to impossible, especially since the LPGA doesn't have great depth. Normally you have to defeat a few top players on Sunday but not a wave of them like the PGA.

Stacy has been changing putters recently, trying to figure things out. During her heyday she always used a white TaylorMade Ghost putter.

She got married recently and it's obviously helped her keep things in perspective. For years Stacy had a sourpuss reputation on the golf message boards, due to sulking and gesturing after missed putts, as if the golf gods were against her. This season that has been noticeably lessened.

BTW, another LPGA player who donated her entire winning check a few years ago has had her best season ever. I.K. Kim donated more than $200,000 after winning the Lorena Ochoa event. She is one of the most interesting players on tour. I.K. will take long breaks from the tour to travel by herself and learn about different cultures. Sadly until this year she was remembered mostly for missing a 14 inch putt that would have won the opening LPGA major about 5 years ago. She had a difficult time putting that behind her and didn't win for several years but this season she has had a breakout year with 3 wins including her first major victory, the Women's British Open this summer.
